Close calls were theme of the week at both ends of the table. At the top, it was Richmond trying to keep their unbeaten campaign going as they travelled north. On Friday the team nearly saw a late developing lead go for naught as the Rochester Rhinos tied things up in stoppage time and with seconds left nearly win with a ball that may have crossed the line but was ruled a no goal, and remain a matter of mystery thanks to no clear video replays of the event. A night later in Harrisburg the Kickers again went into the final half-hour scoreless, but found a winner with 13 minutes left to pull even with Orlando City atop the table.
Orlando City, meanwhile, kept the one-point lead in the table by matching Richmond’s effort this week, but it was not easy. On Thursday the Lions posted a 2-1 victory against Charleston with a pair of goals from Jamie Watson, who scored the winner in the second half via a penalty. On the road Sunday, Orlando City took the lead three times against Dayton and nearly had a win only to see the Dutch Lions equalize once again in the 88th despite having played a man down for nearly the entire half.
At the end of the table, the pointless Antigua Barracuda side missed another great chance in another close call in Arizona. After falling in a narrow 1-0 result the previous week, the islanders within a hair of getting their first point again Thursday night in Phoenix only to see the Wolves score the lone tally in stoppage time to spoil the opportunity.
