Lower Division Power Rankings - August 19

LD Soccer News on Facebook
Minimal changes for the top five as they continue to prove to be the best of the Lower Divisions. The Cosmos slipped a bit because the scoreless draw against a decent opponent now looks like a scoreless streak as they were shutout again this week.

Wilmington and Dayton made jumps up the list as they finished strong in their race against one another for the final USL Pro playoff spot, but another bad loss for San Antonio has seen the once promising side plummet fast and hard from the third position they held at the NASL break to now 16 in just three weeks of play.

This Week (Last Week) Club (League) :: W-L-D :: Notes

(1) Richmond Kickers (USL Pro) :: 15-1-10 :: Downed fellow regular season title contender Orlando City Wednesday 2-0 to clinch top spot and played to a 1-1 tie in Pittsburgh Saturday.

(3) Carolina RailHawks (NASL) :: 7-2-6 :: Took care of Cosmos with two early goals en route to 3-0 win.

(2) Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL) :: 7-3-5 :: Played to a 1-1 draw in Edmonton.

(4) Orlando City (USL Pro) :: 16-4-6 :: Lost in Richmond 2-0 Wednesday but rebounded to edge Charlotte 1-0 Saturday.

(5) Charleston Battery (USL Pro) :: 13-7-6 :: Blanked Antigua Thursday evening in an easy finale.

(6) Tampa Bay Rowdies (NASL) :: 6-4-5 :: Found a late stoppage time equalizer for a 1-1 draw in Minnesota.

(8) Charlotte Eagles (USL Pro) :: 10-5-11 :: Played to a 3-3 draw Friday at VSI Tampa Bay, allowing a late penalty, and came up short in other Florida contest, falling 1-0 in Orlando Saturday

(9) Harrisburg City Islanders (USL Pro) :: 14-10-2 :: Lost 3-1 on the road Saturday to a playoff-seeking Dayton that clinched berth with win.

(7) New York Cosmos (NASL) :: 1-1-1 :: Blanked 3-0 on the road by Spring runners-up Carolina RailHawks.

(13) Wilmington Hammerheads (USL Pro) :: 11-11-4 :: Rallied past visiting Pittsburgh Wednesday for a 4-1 win and flew by Antigua Saturday by the same score only to still be a point short of playoff berth.

(16) Dayton Dutch Lions (USL Pro) :: 10-9-7 :: Came from behind for 3-1 victory over visiting Harrisburg Saturday to secure league's final playoff spot by virtue of Wilmington having suffered the point deduction earlier in the season.

(12) Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL Pro) :: 10-8-8 :: Fell 4-1 on the road to playoff-seeking Wilmington Wednesday, but rebounded to tie the regular season champion Richmond Kickers 1-1 on the road Saturday.

(14) FC Edmonton (NASL) :: 4-5-6 :: Played to a 1-1 draw at home against Spring champion Atlanta.

(15) Minnesota United (NASL) :: 5-7-3 :: Gave up late stoppage time equalizer at home in 1-1 draw against Tampa Bay.

(11) LA Blues (USL Pro) :: 11-8-7 :: Downed the visiting Rochester Rhinos 2-1 to close out season.

(10) San Antonio Scorpions (NASL) :: 6-7-2 :: Unable to make up two-goal deficit from first 15 minutes at home in 2-1 loss to cellar-dwelling Fort Lauderdale.

(18) VSI Tampa Bay (USL Pro) :: 9-12-5 :: Rallied to post a 3-3 tie against visiting Charlotte Friday on a late penalty.

(17) Rochester Rhinos (USL Pro) :: 6-10-10 :: Made a big comeback from two down and found a late winner after host Phoenix tied it up in stoppage time for 4-3 road win, but fell in the finale, 2-1, in Los Angeles.

(20) Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) :: 3-10-2 :: Two goals in first 15 minutes enough to post surprise 2-1 win in San Antonio.

(19) Phoenix FC (USL Pro) :: 5-14-7 :: Saw a two-goal lead disappear and a stoppage time equalizer go for naught in a 4-3 loss at home Friday to Rochester in finale.

(21) Antigua Barracuda (USL Pro) :: 0-26-0 :: Lost 3-0 in Charlotte and 4-1 in Wilmington.
