Players honored at Gonzaga Women’s banquet

In addition to honoring the team’s departing seniors, Gonzaga University recognized several players on the team for their contributions in 2011, including Spokane Valley junior Morgan Manchester and Boise freshman Katey Pennington.

Manchester was named the team’s Defensive MVP for 2011 while leading the Zags defensive unit, which finished with a 1.43 goals-against average and seven clean sheets.

Alongside Manchester was Pennington. The young defender was honored as the Newcomer of the Year by the team. Despite being a freshman, she started all 19 matches for the team as well as tallying four assists on the season.

The banquet was also a tribute to seniors Sarah Rhodes, Casey Gould, Katie Spangenberg and Caitlyn Salo. Receiving special honors from that group were Rhodes, who was named Team MVP, and Gould, who was selected as Ultimate Zag.

Junior forward Emma Dolcetti rounded out the awards, receiving Offensive MVP honors.
