NWAC East Tonight 9.26.18: Cardinals Take Four Points in Spokane

The North Idaho College men kept themselves in the postseason picture by handing Spokane their second loss in league play while earning their second win, staying within five points of the leading trio at the halfway point. In the earlier match of the doubleheader the Bigfoot ladies were just cursed and could not find the back of the net, at one point hitting both posts on one shot and then the crossbar on another within a three-minute span. The draw, combined with Yakima Valley's win over Blue Mountain keeps things tight at the top of the table at the halfway point.

INWsn's Player of the Week selection now has a dozen goals on the year through their 10 matches.

Facing two of their regularly toughest opponents Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran, Drew Williams helped lead Whitworth to a draw and a victory to keep them unbeaten and near the top of the Northwest Conference table early in the season to earn the Player of the Week nod.

INWsn College Best XI - Week 4: Carroll's Sheldon Takes Honor in Standout Week

On a list with several choices for the Player of the Week, the two-game performance from Carroll's Lizzie Sheldon against a pair of Northwest Conference foes landed her the nod in a difficult decision that could have just as easily gone to the hat-trick performance of Boise State's Raimee Sherle or the two-game effort by Larkin Russell of Portland.

After returning from a tough trip to Canada with three shutout losses the sophomore got things going for the Saints with all three goals in an overtime contest against Whitman and then scored in another overtime affair as they fell to Whitworth, picked to finish third in their league this year.

On the men's side of things it was Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez (Pasco, WA / Walla Walla CC) earning the nod for Evergreen State for helping lead the Geoducks to a victory against a Whitman side that has been picked to win the Northwest Conference this season.

HS UPDATE 9.13.18: Chiawana, Kamiakin Continue Unbeaten in MCC

The Riverhawks and Braves rolled to two more shutout victories Tuesday evening as they continue their dominance in the Mid-Columbia Conference. Chiawana, facing an unbeaten 2-0 Hanford side, moved to 4-0 with the win and still have yet to allow a goal this season. Kamiakin's defense similarly has dominated play with just one goal allowed is 3-0.

In the GNL Cheney and West Valley both took care of business to move to 2-0 on the season, but the Blackhawks needed overtime to dispatch last-place Pullman. In contrast, there were no such contests in the NEA where the top three - Deer Park, Freeman and Lakeside - yet against rolled to easy wins against the bottom half of the table to all remain 3-0. That will change come Thursday evening though as Deer Park and Lakeside square off in the first meeting amongst any of the contenders.

NWAC East Tonight 9.12.18: Knights Upset Spokane Men to Earn Split

After watching the ladies hold off unbeaten Spokane in a 2-1 loss, the Wenatchee Valley men were able to earn an upset victory against the Bigfoot with a pair of goals late in the game despite being well outshot for the contest.

In the day's other big meeting Yakima Valley kept the loss column empty with a victory over North Idaho to move to 2-0-1 in advance of Saturday's meeting between two of the three unbeaten women's teams.

After an easy contest against Kennewick in which she netted a hat-trick, she played a pivotal role on the road against Southridge where they found themselves trailing at halftime. She quickly found Brielle Fillmore two minutes into the second half and in the 61st scored what held as the game-winner.

Gameday: Stalemate for Whitworth & Northwest

INWsn College Best XI - Week 3: Lennon Leads Providence to Pair of Wins

Malena Lennon tallied a goal and assist twice last week for the University of Providence ladies as they downed Briar Cliff, 2-1 in overtime, and Mid-America Christian, 4-1, away from home to earn the INWsn Player of the Week selection. Previously a defender with the program, Lennon came into the season with just five goals and assist on her career ledger. The results turned the Argos record around to 2-1-0 heading into their final preseason game this weekend against in-state DII foe MSU Billings.

On the men's side results were not particularly positive for area programs and players, but among them was a three-win week for Eastern Oregon led by INWsn Player of the Week choice Aidan Wright. The keeper moved the Mountaineers record to 2-1-1 with two wins and a draw on the road last week in Arizona to finish up the preseason.
