HS UPDATE - Wildcats Upset University to Make 3A Race Interesting

Wednesday's set of fixtures featured a pair of contests with postseason implications and chief among the results was Mt Spokane earning the first victory for the 3A contingent against their 4A peers.

The Wildcats got a goal in each half and the team's stalwart defense took care of the rest with the shutout, putting a major dent in University's playoff chase. After eight games the Wildcats sit with the best defensive mark in the league with just five goals allowed. They are now tied with North Central with both facing 4A opponents again Friday as the Wildcats host second place Ferris and NC on the road against a Titans squad facing a must-win scenario to finish in the top four.

The other big contest featured Gonzaga Prep seeking to improve their position in the chase for the playoffs, but Ferris blocked the Bullpups' efforts to remain two points back of Central Valley, hoping for a miracle slip-up by the Bears.

The real bad news is that Wednesday's results created a very real scenario in which four teams could finish tied on 16 points Friday if Prep defeats Mead in a battle of two sides without a non-shootout win against 4A opponents and both University and Lewis & Clark - which survived a scare against Shadle - both win against their 3A opponents. All three teams are at home.
