Whitworth men top Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran to lead NWC

In the midst of the early stages of the conference campaign, the Whitworth men faced a tough weekend at home playing host to the two other sides in the Northwest Conference that were also 2-0-0 after the first week of play. The Pirates dominated the contest Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Puget Sound and then blanked Pacific Lutheran in a tight 1-0 match Sunday against the Lutes, who were picked to finish second behind the Bucs by the conference coaches.

Women register upset as Whitworth splits versus Puget Sound

It was a role reversal Sunday afternoon at Whitworth with the Lady Pirates claiming a victory, 1-0 over unbeaten Puget Sound, while the unbeaten Bucs fell 2-0 in their men's showdown of Northwest Conference contenders against the Loggers. Tiara Pajimola was the lone goal scorer for the hosts on the day.

Whitworth men hand Puget Sound first NWC loss 1-0; ladies fall 3-0 to Loggers

The Whitworth University men dominated in a 1-0 home victory over the previously perfect University of Puget Sound, who were unable to register a shot on goal in their first conference loss of the season. The win followed a loss earlier in the day for the Whitworth ladies, an injury-plated side that came back in the second half to make the play on the field a lot more even than the eventual score would show as the second-place Loggers used a pair of goals from Kylie Beeson to snare the 3-0 victory.

College Recap - NWC & GNAC: Whitworth women fall short as men learn NCAA foe; MSUB falls to WWU in Final

A rough Halloween week proved to be more trick than treat for the Whitworth women as they saw their title hopes dashed with three losses. After clinching the title last week, the men played their reserves in the final match as they awaited news of their NCAA DIII Tournament draw. Meanwhile, in the Division II GNAC, MSU-Billings bid for a berth via an upset against Western Washington was dashed in the league final.

It was a difficult weekend task for the Whitworth Pirates with the opposition for both teams coming in with two combined losses between the four sides prior to their matches. In the end, the Pirates finished the weekend unbeaten as each side posted a win and a draw. On Sunday, the women took a 1-0 decision against the visiting Loggers while the men battled to a scoreless stalemate.

Conference Play Preview - Northwest Conference - DIII

Conference play kicks off this weekend for the men and women as each team plays twice. The lone INW school, Whitworth, will be at home for all four matches. The men will host Linfield Saturday and Willamette Sunday while the women will play host to Lewis & Clark and Willamette, respectively. The two doubleheaders will feature the women playing at noon and the men at 2:30.
