Spring soccer well under way for Vandals

The University of Idaho Women are off to a busy start to a spring campaign that features five friendlies against regional colleges and wraps up with the Gonzaga Tournament April 21.

The first four games were in Moscow with the Vandals downing Montana 2-0 on March 4 with goals from Erica Hart (Spokane) and Christina Boddie (Port Orchard, WA) on assists from Jill Flockhart and Lauren Layton (Spokane), respectively. Liz Boyden (Spokane), who split time in goal with Carolina Towles (Seattle), made her return between the posts since sustaining a broken leg last fall.

Gonzaga, however, stymied any excitement from the opener with a 1-0 shutout on the road behind goalkeeper Susan Brown, who made several outstanding saves to preserve the victory March 25.

The Vandals played host to a doubleheader on April 1, earning a split on April Fool’s Day despite going scoreless. They fell in the morning opener, 3-0, against Washington State University in the Kibbie Dome and played to a scoreless draw against Central Washington in the afternoon. Rachael Doyle tallied the WSU opener with Jocelyn Jeffers adding the next two.

The next Vandals spring match is in Coeur d’Alene April 14 versus North Idaho College. They wrap things up with the Gonzaga 7v7 tournament April 21.
