Idaho State wraps up spring slate with success

The Idaho State University Bengals traveled to Boise over the weekend for the final friendlies of the spring season.

They played to a pair of draws, getting a 1-1 result Saturday against a Washington State University program that finished fourth in the Pac-12 a year ago and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament. The following day they drew 2-2 with host Boise State despite holding a two-goal advantage with 20 minutes remaining.

“We played some really great soccer this weekend,” ISU Head Coach Allison Gibson said via the school's site. “We had some great competition and while the outcome is always important, we also had the opportunity to focus on the development our game and tweaking our game-play to focus on keeping the lead. I have had many compliments this weekend on how we have been playing. The team has just played phenomenal soccer.”

Idaho State also played in the BYU Outdoor Tournament the week prior, splitting a pair of contests. They topped conference-rival Weber State, 2-1, and fell to Utah Valley, 1-0.

ISU initially trailed the Wildcats Saturday, giving up a goal just before the break. A 70th minute corner, though, levelled terms when Allyson Stainbrook found Amanda Ellsworth. Another corner from Allyssa Kenney with five minutes left was buried by Ellsworth to claim the victory.

A free kick decided Sunday's outcome despite Carly Hutchings-Maloney making the initial save. The rebound, unfortunately was put away for the winner.
