INWsn College Best XI - Week 12: Sherle, Moore Earn Top Honors Among Tough Choices

Choosing INWsn Players of the Week was a tough choice as both the men's and women's lists had a pair of leading contenders... and with playoffs or championships at stake the importance of their performances was heightened.

On the women's side Raimee Sherle (Boise, ID) took the edge over freshman Maddie Morgan (Kennewick, WA) of Eastern Washington, who scored an overtime streak-breaking tally among her three goals in the Big Sky tournament. Sherle, though, netted a hat-trick in her Mountain West semifinal win and scored again to finally defeat nemesis San Diego State - to finally capture the tournament title in her final year.

On the men's side, the story was arguably even more intriguing with Jackson Moore (Spokane, WA) getting the nod. Facing their rival in the season finale with a league championship and NCAA-DIII berth on the line, Pacific Lutheran took care of business on the efforts of Moore, who earned the INWsn Player of the Week nod. On the other side of the coin was as unique of an option as ever seen as Columbia Basin's goalkeeper Jose Moreno (Pasco, WA) was in the running... and he only played in a shootout tiebreaker! After the Hawks went the distance tied 1-1, he stepped between the posts for what ended up being an epic 13-round shootout, making three saves to send CBC to the NWAC Final Four. In fact, probably for the first time ever, two keepers from the same team earned a spot on the INWsn Best XI for the same game as Danny Puga (Pasco, WA) also had a pretty big performance during the match itself.

About INWsn Best XI: Each week INWsoccernews will release lists of the week’s best performances (not necessarily positional as a traditional XI) for men’s and women’s soccer in the region, recognizing players at schools in the region or those from the area that play elsewhere in the nation. The list is extremely flexible and has no defined formation, despite featuring 11 players (when number of results/games allow). The Best XI was launched with the start of the site's collegiate coverage in 2012, continued through 2014 and was re-launched in 2017 after a two-year absence.
