College Notebook 8.23.18: Locals Light it up in Openers

The college season kicked off last week with a number of preseason and exhibition contests. Here's a quick round-up of those scores along with some player notes. Smoke from wildfires throughout the northwest and Canada have and continue to alter the schedule.

Women's Scores & Notes

Friday, August 10

Washington State 2-1 San Diego (EXH) - Maddy Haro tied it up in the 83rd and Morgan Weaver scored the winner two minutes later on a rebound.
Eastern Washington 8-0 Corban University (EXH) 
Idaho 0-1 Utah (EXH) 

Monday, August 13

Utah Valley 3-1 Idaho State (EXH) - Meaghan Bare connected with Corinne Sanderson for the opener 15 minutes in.

Tuesday, August 14 

Central Washington 0-2 Idaho (EXH) - Myah Merino scored the opening goal and a free kick from Maddie Haas (Lewiston, ID) was put away for the second by Jordyn Dion.

Thursday, August 16

Minot State 1-0 Regina (EXH) - Haley Berryman (Ephrata, WA / WWCC) scored the winner.

Friday, August 17

CSU-Bakersfield 0-1 (OT) Eastern Washington - Emma Vanderhyden scored on a corner kick in the fifth minute of overtime.
Westminster College 2-1 Idaho State (EXH) - Brooke Kortekaas scored an equalizer in the 13th for ISU.
Seattle University 1-3 Washington State - Morgan Weaver headed in a ball from Maddy Haro in the 26th to tie it up and combined with Shayna Whieldon to set up Elyse Bennett in the 49th before getting another via Haro in the 59th.
Santa Clara 2-1 San Jose State - Maria Sanchez (American Falls, ID) set up the winner for the Broncos.
Minot State 4-2 Regina (EXH) - Haley Berryman (Ephrata, WA / WWCC) scored twice.
Grand Canyon 1-2 Gonzaga - Jodi Ulkekul scored the equalizer in the 82nd with Sam Heilman (Richland, WA) finding India Jencks for the winner in overtime.
Boise State 5-0 Northwest Nazarene (EXH) - Lillie French scored the first with McKenna Kynett scoring the next two. Raimee Sherle converted a penalty and Piper Flannery finished things off.
MSU-Billings 5-1 Rocky Mountain College (EXH) - Julia Keller opened the scoring with Cassidy O'Dell finding Claire Tevaseu for the second. Lexie Bloyder (Billings, MT) added the third before O'Dell tallied her own. Alexa Iacolucci rounded things out for MSUB via Jordan Devoto (Wilsall, MT) before Hannah Borgel scored for RMC.
McNeese State 1-0 Prairie View A&M - Havana Johnson (Coeur d'Alene, ID) scored the winner.
Idaho 0-1 Nevada
Fresno State 1-0 Montana 

Sunday, August 19

Idaho 1-2 Boise State - Kristina Serres set up McKenna Kynett in the sixth and found Raimee Sherle (Meridian, ID) in the 52nd for the winner with Savannah Foster netting for Idaho in the 67th via Morgan Crosby (Spokane, WA).
Grand Canyon 0-1 Washington State - Despite a dominant performance that saw no saves needed from Ella Dederick, it came down to a Molly Myers tap-in on a cross from Maddy Haro in the second minute of overtime.
Samford 1-6 Baylor - Camryn Wendlandt (Coeur d'Alene, ID) scored for the Bears.
San Francisco 2-0 Montana 

Monday, August 20

California 1-4 Santa Clara - Maria Sanchez (American Falls, ID) set up the opener with a corner in the 12th and delivered a cross to Kelcie Hedge (Post Falls, ID) in the 45. She also helped set up the third as well as Kelsey Turnbow's (Spokane, WA) tally.
Midland 1-4 Embry-Riddle - Riley Martinson (Spokane, WA) set up the go-ahead goal and then scored twice to put the match away.
MSU-Billings 3-1 Carroll (EXH) - Julia Keller opened the scoring with Cassidy O'Dell netting via Jordan Devoto (Wilsall, MT) for the second. O'Dell added the third courtesy of Keller and the Saints got on the board via an own goal late.

Fraser Valley 0-1 Evergreen State (EXH) - Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez (Pasco, WA) set up the game-winner.

Thursday, August 16

Seattle Pacific 0-5 Washington (EXH) - Blake Bodily (Eagle, ID) set up the opening goal and converted a penalty for the fourth with Noah Whitman (Spokane, WA) capping the scoring.

Sunday, August 19

Tuesday, August 21

Northwest Nazarene 1-0 College of Idaho (EXH) - Dominic Abdel-Ahad netted the winner.
