NWAC East Tonight 8.24.18: Ladies Finish with Just Two Losses in 15 Games

Day two of the Starfire Friendlies saw continued success for the NWAC East ladies as they went 4-1-2, but the wheels came off on the men's side as they went 2-4-1 on the day (two-day records: 8-2-5 women, 4-6-2 men).

Starfire Friendlies - MEN 

Everett 0-2 Walla Walla :: Emilio Gonzales (Caldwell, ID) and Eduardo Ramirez (Sunnyside, WA) scored back-to-back goals in the first six minutes en route to a win in which Antonio Campos (Hermiston, OR) made 12 saves.

Peninsula 0-1 Columbia Basin :: Armando Nieblas (Pasco, WA) scored the deciding goal in the 75th minute with Christopher Kirby (Yakima, WA) making seven saves for the shutout.

Edmonds 0-0 Wenatchee Valley :: The Knights earned the draw in a contest in which they allowed just two shots with Alexis Calderilla (Wenatchee, WA) getting the clean sheet without a save. Cole Houser (Boise, ID) made four stops for Edmonds on the other side.

Skagit Valley 3-1 North Idaho :: Mac Stultz (Sandpoint, ID) opened the scoring for NIC, but the opposition rattled off three unanswered with two goals from Paul Cuevas (Yakima, WA) and a goal and assist from Juan Soto (Moxee, WA).

Whatcom 2-1 Spokane :: Jared Mehaffey (Spokane, WA) netted an equalizer in the 11th minute, but a second half goal decided the outcome.

Southwest Oregon 5-0 Blue Mountain :: Two goals in the first three minutes put the Timberwovles in a big early hole.

Shoreline 3-1 Treasure Valley :: The Chukars gave up three in the first half before scoring in the second. No details available.

Starfire Friendlies - WOMEN 

Shoreline 0-3 Columbia Basin :: Mikayla Hunter (Kennewick, WA) opened the scoring right before the break and later added an assist on the final goal from Katie Sinclair (Richland, WA). Tihanee Freitas scored the second goal and Kaile Kauanui made two saves for the shutout.

Edmonds 1-1 Wenatchee Valley :: Bethany Wagner (Cashmere, WA) scored the opener in the 10th minute with the Tritons answering a minute later.

Everett 0-3 Yakima Valley :: Courtney Handlen (Pocatello, ID) converted from the spot after Kirsten Stickney (Colville, WA) was fouled in the box in the 25th, and would later add a second late in the match. Natalie Wright added to her big Thursday tally (goal, two assists) with the second goal.

Peninsula 0-1 Walla Walla :: Facing one of the powerhouses, the Warriors won the close-fought contest with a 57th minute tally from Taylen Wohl . Daniel Dowd (Rathdrum, ID) made seven saves for the shutout.

Whatcom 0-1 Spokane :: Chayse Avalos (Twin Falls, ID) scored the deciding goal just six minutes into the match and Micky Ramirez made five saves to maintain the advantage for the win.

Grays Harbor 0-0 Treasure Valley :: No details available.

Skagit Valley 1-0 North Idaho :: In a tight contest a 15th minute goal proved to be the difference.


Updated: results from Thursday updated in previous report, except for Treasure Valley, which has apparently not reported any of their info for the Friendlies.
