Both the Broncos and Vandals will be in action in the state of New Mexico this week as the MWC is holding its championship at the University of New Mexico (seed #4) and the WAC tournament is at New Mexico State (did not qualify). Fans from the Gem State can catch both teams in action as the schedules have the two tournaments playing on alternate days. BSU kicks it off with a match Tuesday and after an off-day Wednesday, it is four consecutive days of games for the two conferences.
Meanwhile, the Montana Grizzlies finished the year on the road with a non-conference contest while the Big Sky's top four prepare for the postseason. The tournament will be hosted by Portland State, which features INW players Lexi Greenwood (Spokane, WA), Maggie Coleman (Hermiston, OR), Torrie Morris (Bend, OR) as well as former Spokane Shine goalkeeper Caitlin Plese and former Eastern Washington player Melissa Bishop.
MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE - WOMEN
Wednesday, October 30
Air Force 1 :: 3 Boise State
In a game rescheduled due to the government shutdown, the two sides were also in a stalemate going into the second half before the Broncos jumped in front with two goals in a three-minute span. Gabby Garcia put the hosts in front off a rebound from point-blank range in the 51st minute and a little over two minutes later Brooke Heidemann connected with Kayla Tucker, who put it in from about 15 yards in the 53rd. Air Force answered in the 67th, but that was all they could muster in the rally attempt before Heidemann helped clinch the win by finding Baylee Blazer inside the six for a close-range finish in the 90th minute. Boise State 1 :: 1 Utah State
In a deciding game for fourth place and a bye to the Second Round in the conference playoffs, the Broncos did just enough with the draw to edge out the Aggies. Kayla Tucker scored her second of the week off of a rebound, putting the visitors on the board in the 21st minute. The Broncos had the better of play in the match and a 19-7 advantage in shots, but the Aggies found an equalizer just before halftime. Maddy McDevitt made two saves in the second half to keep the Broncos in front in the playoff race and the defense allowed just one Aggie shot, off the mark, in overtime to advance to the postseason as the third seed.
