INW Best XI - Week 13: Ames leading Concordia in title defense

A trio of INWsn area players were recognized for last week's playoffs action along with a number of other players around the region who played key roles even though their teams were eliminated from the postseason.

Ashley Ames (Spokane, WA) guided Concordia to an opening round win in defense of their national championship and Cody Lang (Spokane, WA) was pitching a shutout for Seattle Pacific before an overtime goal dashed their championship dreams.

BEST OF THE INLAND NORTHWEST XI 

G - Sean Flynn - Rocky Mountain College :: Made nine saves as the Bears were outshot 19-8 in a 2-1 NAIA opening round loss at second-ranked and lone NAIA unbeaten U-Texas-Brownsville.  (Sioux Falls, SD)

INW MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK :: G - Cody Lang (Spokane, WA) - Seattle Pacific :: Made four saves in the Third Round of the Division II NCAA tournament that went to overtime scoreless, eventually falling 1-0 to Cal State Los Angeles.

D - Martha Heaps (Spokane, WA) - Concordia University :: Helped lead the defensive effort in a 3-0 shutout win against Menlo College in the NAIA opening round.

D - Becca Long (Meridian, ID) - Concordia University :: Helped lead the defensive effort in a 3-0 shutout win against Menlo College in the NAIA opening round.

M - Jack Clancy - Rocky Mountain College :: Scored with two minutes remaining to put the Bears within one, but it was not enough as they fell 2-1 at second-ranked and lone NAIA unbeaten U-Texas-Brownsville in the opening round of the national tournament.  (Westmeath, Ireland)

M - Colin Shockman (Spokane, WA) - Whitworth University :: Scored with 10 men to pull the Pirates back within one in a 3-2 loss to Christopher Newport in the Round of 16 of the Division III tournament.

INW WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK :: F - Ashley Ames (Spokane, WA) - Concordia University :: Scored the game-winning strike in a 3-0 opening round victory against Menlo College in the NAIA tournament.

F - Karl Muelheims (Spokane, WA) - Whitworth University :: Scored to cut a two-goal deficit in half in Whitworth's eventual 3-2 loss to Christopher Newport in the Round of 16 of the Division III tournament.

F - Derik Chaney (Helena, MT) - Corban University :: Trailing by two, he scored to cut the lead in half only to see the Warriors fall 4-1 to second-seeded Ashford in the opening round of the NAIA tournament.
