INW NAIA & NWAC College Recap – Week Ten: Great Falls finishes Frontier sweep; NWAC playoffs set

With the women idle in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and little to be determined on the men's side, the more interesting NAIA scenarios for the week laid to the east where the University of Great Falls finished a sweep of the Frontier Conference on the eve of the Unaffiliated Group tournament and the Rocky Mountain College women came up short in a head-to-head showdown with Westminster College for the regular season title.

In the NWAC, all that was left to settle in the final week of league play was the seeding for the men's second berth and rights to host in the opening round, but a stalemate between Walla Walla and Wenatchee Valley was all the Warriors needed.

NWAC EAST - MEN

Wednesday, October 29

Wenatchee Valley 1-1 Walla Walla
In a showdown between the two sides fighting for second and the right to host in the first round of the playoffs, it looked liked the hosts were going to take the win on Vincente Flores' (Touchet, WA) goal in the 84th minute. The Knights' Mauricio Perez (East Wenatchee, WA), however, tied it up in stoppage time, but they needed a victory to avoid finishing behind the Warriors on tiebreakers.

Columbia Basin 0-3 Spokane
Both eliminated from postseason contention, the Bigfoot cruised to the victory. Jesus Torres (Pasco, WA) scored the opening goal in the 41st minute and would later set up Brandon Babinski's (Spokane, WA) tally to cap the scoring in the 83rd. Devin Leon scored the second strike in the 66th on a ball from Alex Opland (Rathdrum, ID).

Friday, October 31

Treasure Valley 5-1 Walla Walla U  (NL)
The Chukars dominated the non-league contest with Diego Diaz Sanchez leading the way with two goals and two assists. Sidronio Rangel (Fruitland, ID), Mursal Dahiri (Boise, ID) and Landon Broadhead (Franklin, ID) scored the other three goals.

Saturday, November 1

Treasure Valley 2-3 Columbia Basin
In a back-and-forth contest, the Hawks needed to rally in the second half for the win. They initially took the lead when Fredy Rodriguez (Wapato, ID) connected with Jorge Campos (Othello, WA) 16 minutes in, but the Chukars pulled even at the half-hour mark via Diego Diaz Sanchez. Just before intermission Oziel Osequera (Blackfoot, ID) put the visitors in front. David Esparza scored the equalizer in the 69th on a ball from Cesar Garcia (Grandview, WA) and Osvaldo Martinez netted the winner three minutes later.

Spokane 0-1 North Idaho
Matt Howard (Post Falls, ID) scored the deciding tally three minutes in with an olympico on a corner, and despite having a man advantage for the final 20 minutes following Jeffrey Rokstad's (Sandpoint, ID) send-off, the Bigfoot were unable to equalize. Their biggest nemesis was the woodwork as they hit the frame four times during the match, including one goalkeeper Mitchell Markovetz (Boise, ID) saved first.  MORE [+]
