NWAC East Update 9.11.19: Yakima Valley Tops Spokane in East Opener

Yakima Valley went from recording just their second-ever win against Spokane last fall at home to posting their second consecutive victory against the defending champions Wednesday afternoon - in Spokane - as the NWAC East kicked off play.

On the men's side it was a rough evening for the home sides as they went 0-2-1. The winners on the day, overall, posted shutouts in six of the seven matches.

W - Treasure Valley 0-6 Walla Walla... Jessica Maher (Richland, WA) scored in the third minute and set up Taylen Wohl (Clarkston, WA) eight minutes later. Ashley Conrad (Twin Falls, ID) pushed the lead to three in the 22nd. Aubree Skone (Warden, WA) netted the next two in the 29th and 67th with Maher setting up Rylee Simpson (Caldwell, ID) for the final tally. W - Columbia Basin 4-0 Blue Mountain... Four different players scored for the Hawks, but Dani Chang was at the heart of action. She found Mya Spencer (Ephrata, WA) in the 31st for the lone goal of the first half. After Myesha Moss doubled things, Chang connected with Bailey Whitney (Warden, WA) in the 62nd and tallied one of her own via Spencer in the 72nd. RiaJo Schwartz only needed to make one save for the shutout.

W - Wenatchee Valley 0-3 North Idaho... Berenice Chavez (Idaho Falls, ID) staked a two-goal lead for the Cardinals in the early stages of the contest with the opener in the 16th and a second via Sydney Moore (Newman Lake, WA) in the 23rd. W - Yakima Valley 2-0 Spokane... Ciel McDonald made Spokane pay for its mistakes on the back line, stealing the ball outside the box early in the contest to put the Yaks in front and added another with a looping shot from the edge of the box into the back far corner of the net. Brynlee Ward (Pocatello, ID) posted the shutout.  PHOTOS [+]
