College of Idaho coach takes on double duty

The College of Idaho announced that long-time men’s head coach Brian Smith of Boise has been appointed Director of Soccer, taking on the additional responsibility as the head coach of the women’s team.

“I am excited to take on this new challenge,” said Smith, who has a record of 78-54-10 since 2004. “Both the men’s and women’s teams have a strong core group returning and a quality recruiting class – it should be an exciting year for Coyote soccer.”

Smith has been named the Cascade Conference Coach of the year three times (2006, 08, 10) since leading the Coyotes. It is the second time the school has had a single coach of both teams with John Calpin filling the role for 1989 and 1990. C of I is now the third school in the conference, joining Northwest Christian (Eugene, OR) and Oregon Tech (Klamath Falls) with the same arrangement.

Smith is replacing Niki Taylor, who left the school in February to be assistant coach for Emerald City FC (Seattle) of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
