A weekly list of the top five players or performances of
each round in NASL, USL Pro and MLS Reserves…
Christhian Hernandez – Harrisburg City Islanders
On loan from affiliate Philadelphia Union, the striker was
key in the club earning the first win by a USL Pro side against an MLS Reserve
League team. Hernandez stunned the host Rapids Reserve just two minute in with
the opening goal and set up Greg Jordan for the game-winner in the 64th
minute as they held on for the 2-1 victory.
If you could split a spot, this would be one as Ruben Lena also had two goals in the teams 4-3 win in Tampa Bay. Mendes, however, scored on two fantastic strikes after falling behind 3-1, including the game-winner
Luke Mulholland – Tampa Bay Rowdies
The Rowdies may have ultimately lost the game 4-3 to
Atlanta, but all the scoring came courtesy of Mulholland, who set up Evans
Frimpong eight minutes into the contest and then put Tampa Bay back in front
with a great strike in the 24th, two minutes after Atlanta
equalized. He added a second goal two minutes before the break for a 3-1 lead
on a fantastic free kick.
Michael Nanchoff – Portland Timbers Reserves
The striker played the pivotal role for the Timbers on
Monday, beginning with a goal line save 10 minutes into the contest to keep San
Jose off the board. Four minutes later he put Portland in front, and in the 50th
minute he provided the game-winning tally.
Jamie Watson – Orlando City
The striker was the difference in avenging their loss in Los
Angeles, keeping the Lions in front against the Blues. After a scoreless first
half he went on a scoring surge with the opening goal in the 56th
minute and set up Yann Songo’o for a two-goal lead in the 61st.
After LA pulled one back in the 69th, Watson was taken down in the
box and then converted the subsequent penalty in the 72nd minute for
what proved to be the winner.
