INW College Recap - Week 4: Big wins for Gonzaga men, women highlight area DI results

The Gonzaga men continue to roll with another surprising road result and it may have rubbed off onto the women's side as the Bulldog women posted their first victory over a PAC-12 school since 2007, ending a 15-game losing streak against the conference. Also on the women's side, Eastern Washington won against future Big Sky foe Idaho for the second straight year; Boise State picked up a pair of wins in North Dakota; and Washington State had a pair of good results.

The Bulldogs' run continues as they posted a third consecutive shutout win on the road, blanking a Rebels squad that was 17th in the nation in offense and extending Ryan Caballero's shutout streak to 313 minutes. Alec Cutter and Zach Hamer scored their first goals of the season in the final half-hour of the contest on assists from Jakob Granlund and Nikolai Littleton for the win. MORE

Kayla Tucker gave the Broncos the initial advantage 22 minutes in when she put a loose ball away from six yards out before Maddy McDevitt's shutout streak came to an end at 451 in the 31st minute of the contest when UND pulled even. Ashley Hruby helped propel the side to another road victory in the Roughrider State, putting away a header off a long free kick from the left touchline in the 34th minute that proved to be the winner and finding Rebe Wolverton after the pair created a turnover deep in the offensive end in the 87th to add some insurance.  MORE

Micaela Castain is back at it again, scoring both goals in the victory. The first was a header on a cross from Korynn Blanksma (Wenatchee, WA) in the 31st minute and the second came on a ball from Delaney Zalud (Spokane, WA). The result pushed the Cougars to 5-0-1, marking the first time in program history they are unbeaten after six games. Gurveen Clair made two saves for her fourth complete game shutout. MORE

After an own goal put the Utes down six minutes in, Allie Wisner (Bozeman, MT) topped in a cross nine minutes later to bring Utah level as they went on to post the draw.

Washington State 2 :: 2 Oklahoma State
Micaela Castain scored two more for four on the weekend, doubling her season tally to eight. She buried the first in the 12th minute on a 30 yard free kick and after falling behind 2-1 in the 43rd minute she answered right back for the Cougars, tallying the equalizer a half-minute later from nine yards out. Goalkeeper Gurveen Clair's shutout streak dating back to the season opener against Seattle University came to an end at 512 minutes. MORE

For the second time on the weekend, Allie Wisner (Bozeman, MT) was the one to get the scoring going for Utah, tapping in another goal in the 12th minute as they rolled to the win.

Tyler Adair opened the scoring just after the 20-minute mark with a six-yard header off a ball from Mackenzie Akins, who 50 minutes later doubled the advantage with a through ball to India Watne, who beat the keeper. With the Vandals set to join the Big Sky next season, the Eagles posted their second consecutive victory over Idaho. Cassie Black opened the scoring for the second consecutive year, hitting a strike from 18 yards that slipped under the bar out of goalkeeper Marina Siegl's reach just over two minutes into the contest. Haley Stading served a perfect ball in the 70th minute that created a collision between the Vandal keeper and a defender, allowing Alisha Stott to finish easily. Katie Baran (Spokane, WA), however, answered back for the Vandals in the 79th off a rebound but the hosts were unable to find the equalizer. MORE

Montana 3 :: 3 Nebraska-Omaha
India Watne put the Grizzlies in front nine minutes in on a 20 yard strike off a ball from Mackenzie Akins, her third assist of the week, only to see Omaha go to the break in front 2-1. A scramble in the box finished with Stephanie Carl and Taylor Rhodes combining to find Tyler Adair for the equalizer in the 80th and Akins put the Grizzlies back in front three minutes later off a breakaway down the right side. Montana, though, had to settle with a draw despite outshooting the Mavericks 26-8. MORE

Idaho State 1 :: 4 Hawaii
Trailing by three late in the second half Amanda Ellsworth sent a shot in off the post to spoil the shutout as the Bengals were dominated in a game in which they were outshot 23-4 by the hosts. MORE

Montana 1 :: OT :: 2 Creighton
Stephanie Carl (Missoula, MT) broke a stalemate in the 67th minute when Creighton failed to completely clear a corner, but the hosts found a late equalizer in the 87th and a winner four minutes into overtime. MORE

Florida Gulf Coast 5 :: 1 Idaho State
The Bengals had no better luck in Hawaii on the second outing, falling to the Eagles, but were able to spoil the shutout once again with Ka'imi Morreira scoring with less than two minutes left in the return to her home state. MORE

Portland State 2 :: 0 Hawaii
Former Eastern Washington University player Melissa Bishop scored the second goal in the 69th minute and former Spokane Shine goalkeeper Caitlin Plese made 10 saves for the clean sheet on the road.
