INW College Recap - Week 4: CC Spokane, Walla Walla CC showing strength in NWAACC

The NWAACC East Division teams continued their early season slate against the North Division over the last week with the men's teams going 3-3-2 against their western foes and the ladies only finding wins via Spokane and Walla Walla at home among a 2-5-5 record. The Sasquatch men and women were 2-0-2 on the week while their counterparts from division power Walla Walla were 2-0-1.

After visiting CC Spokane Saturday, Shoreline ventured over the border and played a doubleheader with North Idaho College, splitting on the day. The women's side posted a narrow 1-0 victory while the men's side, winless on the year, fell 2-0 to the Cardinals.

NWAACC EAST - MEN 

Max Smith
Wednesday, September 11 

Walla Walla 3 :: 2 Whatcom 
The Warriors used a pair of back-to-back goals to take a two-goal lead into the break. Austin Herrick (Richland, WA) connected with Jessie Garcia for the opener in the 34th and Max Smith doubled it in the 36th. Whatcom answered in the 76th, but Smith fired right back on a ball from Garcia a minute later to restore the two-goal lead with what proved to be the winner.

CC Spokane 0 :: 0 Everett 
Goalkeeper Curtis Hill (Spokane, WA) led Spokane in the shutout effort, the team's first of the year.

Columbia Basin 2 :: 2 Shoreline 
The two sides were deadlocked well into the contest before Jesse Esquivel (Yakima, WA) broke the tie 72nd minute on a ball from Daniel Hernandez only to see the hosts answer three minutes later. Esquivel found Kolten Brockman (Kennewick, WA) in the 89th minute for what looked like the game-winner only for Shoreline to hit an equalizer four minutes into stoppage time.

Wenatchee Valley 1 :: 2 Skagit Valley 
Trailing by two since the 19th minute on the road, the Knights made an attempt at a rally with a goal from Williams Pineda (Yakima, WA) in the 76th minute but were unable to find an equalizer.

Saturday, September 14 

Shoreline 0 :: 6 CC Spokane 
The Sasquatch dominated from the opening whistle of each half, literally. Jared Fretheim (Spokane, WA) set up Reece Jackson (Post Falls, ID) less than a minute into the first half and Chris Donich (Spokane, WA) scored in the first half-minute of the second period on a ball from defender Travis Hill (Spokane, WA). Meanwhile, Devin Leon had scored twice for the Bigfoot in the 32nd, on a ball from Fretheim, and 35th minutes and Carson Lamphere (Cheney, WA) struck in the final minute of the opening half. Donich the contest with one more in the 69th. MORE

Edmonds 0 :: 2 Columbia Basin 
The Hawks built a two-goal lead in the first half and Antonio Gonzalez (Cowiche, WA) made six saves to hold onto the shutout win. John Zoulek (Kennewick, WA) scored the opening tally in the 31st minute on a ball from Marco Marmolejo (Yakima, WA) and Erik Ruiz doubled terms just before the intermission.

Skagit Valley 3 :: 1 Treasure Valley 
By the time Sidronio Rangel (Fruitland, ID) scored for the Chukars in the 68th minute on a ball from Uriel Anguiano (Burley, ID) it was too late as they trailed by three to the visitors.

Whatcom 2 :: 0 Wenatchee Valley 
The Knights gave up a goal in the first minute at home and were never able to recover.

Walla Walla 1 :: 1 Whatcom 
Trailing after the first half, the Warriors pulled even four minutes into the second half via Julie Belden.

Treasure Valley 1 :: 1 Green River 
The hosts took the lead three minutes in, but Alyssa Graham (Boise, ID) provided the equalizer five minutes into the second half on a ball from Sierra Martinez (Boise, ID).

Columbia Basin 1 :: 1 Shoreline 
Defender Kellie Ross (Yakima, WA) put the Hawks in front in the 51st minute as they held on for the draw on the road.

Wenatchee Valley 0 :: 1 Skagit Valley 
Kirsten Flones (Wenatchee, WA) made 15 saves for the Knights, but the one that got past her in the 23rd minute proved to be all the hosts would need.

CC Spokane 0 :: 0 Everett 
Emily Moscrip (Lewiston) needed to make only two saves as the Sasquatch played to the scoreless stalemate, registering her first shutout of the season.

Yakima Valley 0 :: 5 Edmonds 
The Yaks gave up three in the first half and another two in the second.

Saturday, September 14 

Green River 0 :: 9 Walla Walla 
The Warriors had an easy go of it with Delaney Romero (Yakima, WA) scoring twice. Tash Anderson (Bend, OR) posted two goals and two assists on the day. Others with multiple entries the scoring summary were Julie Beldon (1 goal, 2 assists) and Olivia Rodgers (1 goal, 1 assist; East Wenatchee, WA) with Shauntice Perrigo, Amanda Jones (Boise, ID) and Alli Madril (Boise, ID) finding the back of the net.

Edmonds 3 :: 0 Columbia Basin 
The Hawks gave up two in the first half and were never able to put one past the visitors for a rally.

Skagit Valley 4 :: 4 Treasure Valley 
The Chukars held the lead multiple times in the contest with Sierra Martinez (Boise, ID) scoring the opener six minutes in and adding a second in the 24th on a ball from Ellena Fajardo (Eagle, ID). The Cardinals answered just before the break but Dakota Chapman (Payette, ID) found Alyssa Graham (Boise, ID) to restore the two goal advantage in the 58th. That lasted only six minutes, however, as the Cardinals pulled even in the 64th. Graham added another in the 72nd but the visitors once again were able to find another equalizer with five minutes left.

Laura Seymour
Whatcom 3 :: 1 Wenatchee Valley 
The Knights took the initial lead 19 minutes in through London Cleverly (Moses Lake, WA) and took the advantage to the break. Four minutes into the second half the visitors pulled even and then used two in a one-minute span in the 75th to register the win.

Shoreline 0 :: 4 CC Spokane 
Missing their leading scorer, the Bigfoot still rolled to an easy win, taking command five minutes in when Kat Tsoukalas (Kennewick, WA) drove into the box and beat the keeper. Emily Fejeran (Spokane, WA) scored just before the break on a ball from Lindsey DeHaas (Spokane, WA) and Laura Seymour (Spokane, WA), who set up the opener, pushed the lead to three in the 54th courtesy of Taylor Strasser (Spokane, WA). Strasser set up a second in the 75th by DeHaas. MORE

The Yaks gave up two in the first half before seeing the match pull well out of reach in the second period.

Shoreline CC 0 :: 2 North Idaho College 
John Ray (Boise, ID) led the Cardinals to the victory, serving a low ball in to Shane Stanley (Sagle, ID) for the opener in the 15th minute of action and then scoring himself less than a minutes into the second half on a free kick delivered by Rodger Bucknor. The Cardinals could have had five on the day but a TJ Merwin (Coeur d'Alene, ID) free kick was parried wide in the first half, a penalty attempt was stopped in the second and Christian Botuli sent one off the post near the conclusion. The Shoreline keeper made several saves to keep the game in a scoreless stalemate until the Dolphins found some fortune in the 75th minute when an attempted clearance by the Cardinal keeper came up shy with the forward who challenged for the ball finding a teammate for the open net finish. MORE
