HS DAILY - 9.29.16: Ferris downs LC in shootout

One-sided contests continue to be the norm in the Greater Spokane League as the 4A sides continue facing the 3A schools in the early part of the season. The result after three match days is a trio of teams with perfect records and double-digit goal differentials. That trio - Mead, Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep - won their three matches Wednesday by a combined 21-1, though the Bullpups were in the closest contest in a 3-1 victory over University.

In the only close contest of the day, Ferris finally registered its first victory by downing Lewis & Clark in a shootout after a 2-2 draw.

Here's a look around the action from Wednesday night...

GSL #####

Lewis & Clark 2-3 SO Ferris:  Based on results coming into the contest, it was a bit of a surprise that Ferris was able to pick up its first win in league play against Lewis & Clark, but the two sides tallied twice each in the first half and went deadlocked the rest of the way to a shootout that the Saxons took 5-4. Yacine Bitibale put Ferris in the lead six minutes into the contest, but the Tigers rallied with Katelyn Kenney scoring the equalizer in the 17th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 22nd. Rebekah Reason set up both goals. Five minutes later Alexis Murphy made things even once again.

Gonzaga Prep 3-1 University:  The Bullpups took an early lead six minutes in through Trudi Timperman but University took things to the break on even terms with Julia Adair converting a penalty in the 31st. Darby Doyle put G-Prep back in front four minutes after intermission and Timperman converted a penalty in the 54th that gave the visitors a little space.

Mt Spokane 5-1 Shadle Park:  The Wildcats scored their first goals of the season in rolling to their second win with the first having come via shootout in a scoreless draw. Sierra Poquette put Mt Spokane on the board first 10 minutes in and Payton Stiles converted a penalty in the 29th. Allie Baribault pushed the lead to three two minutes later. In the second half, the Highlanders finally found their first goal of the campaign in the 62nd via Katie Benjamin, but Stiles connected with Ally Gockley in the 75th and Baribault netted her second in the 80th to cap the game.

Rogers 0-11 Central Valley:  Kailyn LaBrosse scored twice in the first nine minutes and McKenzie Claypool tallied two goals and two assists in the big victory. Kalie Crouch and Robertson also tallied hat-tricks in the contest.

Mead 7-0 North Central:  In the first 11 minute Claire Neder had two goals and Cheris Brown a goal and an assist in giving the Panthers a three goal advantage. Natalie Martell then scored consecutive goals for a five goal lead at the break. Kaylyn Thompson and Sarah Wilson rounded out the scoring in the second half.
