HS UPDATE 10.31.18: Kamiakin, East Valley & Deer Park Claim District Titles as Top Seeds Nearly Sweep

The eve of Halloween saw very little in the way of tricks or nightmares as nearly every top seed in the four different classifications won their match with the exception of Southridge grabbing a narrow 1-0 victory on the road against North Central, but both were the second seeds from their respective leagues.

Kamiakin, as expected, won the 3A district title to advance to the state tournament while Gonzaga Prep and Central Valley took care of business in a pair of one-goal decisions to earn state berths and set up their 4A district final. In elimination action Southridge's win will see the Suns return to Spokane Thursday to face the Mt Spokane after their dispatching of Kennewick in the 3A bracket. On the 4A side of things Mead and Richland both won handily, though the Bombers had to rally from an initial deficit. They both will face league opponents in the 'semifinal' round of the losers bracket for the third state berth.

East Valley took care of business for the 2A district title, but they and Cheney both still have cross-over games to contend with versus CWAC opposition to get to state. Deer Park, meanwhile, won their third meeting with Lakeside in the 1A district final to remain unbeaten versus NEA opposition and claim a state berth. Lakeside and Freeman, which easily downed Colville, now advance to their 1A cross-over contests versus CTL sides.

##  4A / 3A PLAYOFFS  ##

4A - Chiawana 0-1 Central Valley :: In a showdown of two powers the Bears controlled much of the possession in the match, but the quality of scoring chances was a lot slimmer. The deciding goal came in the 24th minute of the contest with Kailyn LaBrosse making a great run up the left side before sending a diagonal ball to Marissa Bankey, who struck a nice shot for what stood as the winner. Defender Kendle Dodson did well in a rare appearance in goal for usual Chiawana starter Abby Whiston, who was a late scratch due to injury.

4A - University 1-2 Gonzaga Prep :: The Titans would end up outshooting the host Bullpups in the contest, but Gonzaga Prep held on for the victory. Campbell Seibold made a great individual play for the opener, driving past several defenders before tallying the lone goal of the first half in the 26th. Chelsea Le scored off a rebound from a penalty 15 minutes into the second half for a key goal that proved to be the winner with Kelsey Crosby tallying two minutes from time.

Newman would also be taken down in the box for a penalty Sarah Frahm converted to put the contest out of reach.

Ashley Tonthat found Anabel Lin for the Bombers' equalizer in the 30th minute with the two sides going to the break even. She found Ward again in the 25th for a rocket of a shot and added a third assist on a goal from Izzy Conover to make it four before the break. Gracyn Ulias headed in a corner from Ally Gockley in the 22nd minute. Then Gockley - who had four goals and an assist during the season - was unstoppable, tallying the next three. Allie Lafferty found her two minutes later and Emma Main in the 35th. She completed the hat-trick on a lengthy free kick from about 40 yards out off the left touchline in the second half.

##  Northeast A League  ##

District Final - Lakeside 0-1 Deer Park :: The two foes went at each other for the district title and the direct berth into the state tournament. The two were locked in a stalemate with goalkeepers Payton Williams and Madison Sellars making stop after stop in the match before the dynamic tandem of Emmy Moore and Jessie Thomas connected for the game-winner with six minutes remaining. The goal gave Deer Park a three game sweep of the Eagles on the season.

GK - DP: Madison Sellars 11 saves; L: Payton Williams 13 saves

District Consolation - Colville 0-4 Freeman :: Despite recently returning from injury Lindsay Balkenbush has proven to be nearly unstoppable for the Scotties. She created the opening three goals as they cruised to the win, giving herself and several other key starters and dinged up players an opportunity to rest the second half. Her shot in the sixth minute denied by the keeper rebounded to Peyton Brewer for the opening goal. In the 26th minute a through ball from Brynn Van Orden hit her in stride, allowing her to continue past a defender en route to the score. Two minutes later she pushed the lead to three on her own. Just seconds after entering for Balkenbush Kassidy Reilly picked up where she left off, finishing another through ball from Van Orden two minutes before the break.

"I was very proud of the girls," said head coach Dave Ellis. "They came out focused and composed from the very beginning, and put constant pressure on Colville. The team has battled through a high amount of injuries this year, which has been frustrating. With the exception of Kylie Nelson - who is preparing for an ACL surgery - the team is finally starting to get a little healthier though.  While not 100 percent yet, they are starting to get healed up, and it's nice to see this team's potential when healthy. Through all of the difficulty Macy Luhr and Cheyenne Groat have done an amazing job of stabilizing the backline this year, and I couldn't be prouder of them.  Neither of them have traditionally played that position before, but they look like they are seasoned players back there."
