The defending NCAA champions struck three times in the first half and held on for the shutout victory. The Cardinal outshot ISU 31-7 in the match, forcing freshman keeper Sheridan Hapsic to make 10 saves, five in each half. – MORE
Long Beach SU 1 :: 2 Santa Clara
Sofia Huerta (Boise, ID) helped create the opening goal as the Broncos moved onto the second round of the tournament. She set up the first by dribbling back outside the box in the 18th minute and sending a short ball to Meleana Shim, who sent her low shot through a sea of bodies screening the keeper and inside the left post from the top of the box. The Broncos added their second in the 37th and held on for the victory despite LBSU’s attempted rally in the second half. – MORE
Washington State (5) 2 :: PK :: 2 (6) Portland
The Cougars took the lead in each only to see the draw go nine rounds in the penalty kick tiebreaker before the Pilots prevailed. Brandi Vega took a ball from Micaela Castain int eh 36th minute and chipped the keeper for the opener, but Kendall Johnson answered off an Amanda Frisbie heel pass in the 43rd. The second strike came off a corner kick created by a Korynn Blanksma (Wenatchee, WA) rip that was tipped aside. Mesa Owsley’s restart was initially cleared, but came to the head of Delaney Zalud (Colbert, WA), who headed it back into the box where Nicole Setterlund made a fantastic finish, knocking it in with her heel with her back to goal in the 54th. Michelle Cruz, however, tied it back up in the 62nd for the Pilots, who were denied a winner several times by Cougars goalkeeper Gurveen Clair. The teams both went four for five in the initial phase of the shootout in which the Cougars had a chance to win on the final round only to see defender Rachel Doyle stopped. In the ninth round Erin Dees made her third save of the tiebreaker with a miss from Lauren Previs sending the Pilots forward. – MORE | VIDEO

Jamie Arthurs (Richland, WA) made six saves as the Vikings upset the higher-seeded California program in their home state, getting the winning strike in the 109th minute from Stephanie Hamilton. The match was a stalemate until the Broncos got on the board in the 75th minute, but it only lasted two minutes before defender Brianna Jones nodded in a poor header clearance off a free kick. – MORE

The 10th-ranked hosts certainly tested the Vikings, but Jamie Arthurs was huge once again with 11 saves . Joana Houplin put the Vikings on the board nine minutes in, converting a penalty after Kristin Maris was taken down in the box. Sonoma State pulled even in the 74th to send WWU to another overtime contest where once again they found the winner. This time a scramble in the box led to the ball coming to Catherine Miles, who found Maris for the finish in the 103rd minute. – MORE

Seattle Pacific (4) 1 :: PK :: 1 (5) Cal St LA
The Falcons fell victim to the Golden Eagles for a second straight year, coming up short in the tiebreaker shootout, 5-4. Looking to avenge last year’s 3-2 loss in Seattle, the Falcons got on the board first in a flurry of a finish to the first half. A Corey McGuire corner was one-timed past the keeper by Matt Merchant in the 42nd minute, but the California side evened terms in the final minute of the half on a shot from outside the box. The Falcons nearly found a winner in overtime with Christopher Morris firing a shot off the left post and another that was narrowly tipped over the crossbar. CSULA, would be on the other side of the coin after a 1-1 draw in the following round. Conference foe Simon Fraser, the #1 seed, advanced from their second round opener, 2-1, against Cal State Stanislaus and will face second seed and host Grand Canyon in the Third Round.

Puget Sound 0 :: 1 Trinity
A 26th minute strike from the hosts was all they needed to knock the Loggers out of the tournament. Inland NW defenders Lauren Hamilton (Spokane, WA) and Lauren Swanson (Eagle, ID) both played in the loss. – MORE

Whitworth 0 :: 1 Mississippi College
In a defensive stalemate in which there was only seven shots, the Choctaws found success on one of their three, beating Kyle Novak in the 53rd minute for the lone tally of the match. Meanwhile, Robby Ubben had three of Whitworth’s four shots with defender Will Wren adding the other. Mississippi College was knocked out in the next round by Trinity, 4-1 in penalties, after a scoreless draw. – MORE

Concordia 2 :: OT :: 1 Northwest-U
The Cavaliers avenged their earlier loss a few weeks ago to the Eagles, but had to rally to do so after Micah Wenzel gave the regular season champions the lead in the 33rd minute. With 10 minutes remaining in the contest Kaylynn Winwood (Nampa, ID) scored from 17 yards out, sending the contest to overtime. In the ninth minute of overtime Ashley Ames (Liberty Lake, WA) sent a ball to McKayla Madison (Bend, OR), who fired it home from 22 yards out to send Concordia back to the NAIA tournament for the 13th straight season. Tori Talbutt (Boise, ID) made three saves in the win. Concordia has the third most appearances of the full tournament field, trailing only Westmont (16) and Lindsey Wilson (15) and 17 of the 31 teams are returning from a year ago. – MORE

The Battlin’ Bears women fell on the road (Lipscomb University) in the opposition’s home state. RMC took the initial lead an a quick goal from Mandi Achten (Billings, MT) just under two minutes into the contest, tapping in a ball bobbled by the keeper. The lead, though was short-lived before Mor Efraim went on a rampage, setting up the equalizer in the 12th minute and scoring the next two and three in all as 10th-ranked MMC scored six consecutive times. Kirsty Montignani found a little consolation with a blast into the upper left corner in the final minute. – MORE

Jack Clancy scored twice to send the fourth-year program onto the national tournament for the first time. Mikey Wall (Billings, MT) helped set up the opening strike 17 minutes in and, with the score knotted at 1-1 after intermission, Nick Heffernan found him with 15 minutes remaining to claim the victory. – MORE

Rocky Mountain won both earlier meetings between the two this season, picking up a 3-1 victory on the road and taking a 2-1 overtime decision at home just two weeks ago. Brandon Loeffler (Butte, MT) scored the equalizer and Oliver Gore scored two more in the first win and Mikey Wall (Billings, MT) scored both goals in the second win.
