LD Update: MISL season kicks off; NASL Minnesota gets new owners

The spotlight of MISL opening weekend was stolen away a bit by the NASL's announcement Friday that the Board of Governors ratified a deal that allowed the league-owned Minnesota Stars to be acquired by a new local ownership group.

Though the league and team statement about the vote and sale of the team made no mentions of who comprises the ownership group, Inside Minnesota Soccer unveiled UnitedHealth Care executive William McGuire as one of the likely principals in the group.

The news began to take a turn for the better for the Stars earlier in the week when it was unveiled the team had received a stay of execution with the postponement of a vote on continued league ownership of the team. The news came out on the heels of news that Loudoun County, Virginia would be home to the next NASL expansion team.

Meanwhile, in one of two opening night MISL contests, the expansion Chicago Soul won in their debut, picking up a 13-8 victory on the road against the Syracuse Silver Knights.
