Soccer with Breakfast - March 16

Things are likely to get very serious today for MLS Rivalry Week. On that note, here are some serious stories for today's morning reading…

Soccer at the Pentagon
Earlier in the week I shared a story featuring the unique recreational soccer league at the Vatican. Here is a post from Steven Goff at the Washington Post, who shares an excellent video featuring the Pentagon Soccer Club. It is an excellent short-film documentary piece detailing the role the club plays for the Pentagon employees, often assisting in very emotional matters that show through in the video interviews.

Soccer & Labor Laws
This is an excellent opening report in a series by Steven Sandor of The11.ca examining the roster rules in Major League Soccer and the lower divisions and how they are connected to the differing labor laws and their interpretations in the United States and Canada.

Leiweke Leaving
Following up on the previously shared story about hold on the sale of AEG, a part of MLS ownership on many levels, here is a story from Scott French detailing how surprised those at the LA Galaxy (AEG operates the club & stadium) were at the announcement AEG CEO Tim Leiweke was leaving the organization.

Getting In
Going in a different direction, this is a story about Galatasaray fans trying to sneak into their oversold Champions League contest with Schalke by literally attempting to dig a tunnel under the fence by hand.

'Soccer with Breakfast' is a quick recap of interesting, underreported, or top soccer news items - sometimes accompanied by some commentary - to give readers in the Inland Northwest area (or beyond) a brief look around the North American news scene.
