Division I Round-up: Idaho posts sweep; Spokane duo have big outings

After a series of three 1-0 victories in league play, the Idaho Vandals have added some offense in their repertoire, scoring four goals in both matches over the weekend to give them three consecutive games with at least three goals. The Vandals dominated Southern Utah and preseason favorite Northern Arizona by a combined 8-1 scoreline to improve to 7-0-0 for the year.

Boise State split their final two games of the season at home - though one was moved off-campus - and the rest of the area programs had a rough outing as Gonzaga and Washington State teams went winless.

It was a good week, however, for a pair of players from Spokane with Kara Marbury guiding Illinois to a big win in a return from a concussion and Julia Moravec played a big role in a pair of wins for Seattle University.

Southern Utah 0 :: 4 Idaho 
Four different players tallied for the Vandals, but Josilyn Daggs played a role in setting up three of them. She combined with Olivia Baggerly just after the half-hour mark to set up Kavita Battan for the opener. In the second half she found the head of Alyssa Lloyd (Spokane, WA) in the 55th minute with a cross out of the corner and fed a throw-in to Reagan Quigley to set up Baggerly's tally in the 70th. Elexis Schlossarek capped the scoring with a penalty in the 88th and Amanda Poertner finished the game with five saves for a program record seven shutouts in a season.  MORE [+]

Montana 2 :: 1 Idaho State 
Mackenzie Akins led the Grizzlies to the win, setting up Ellie Otteson with a cross just under two minutes into the match. She scored what proved to be the game-winner on a counter of an ISU corner in the 54th minute, receiving a long ball from Dani Morris and beating a defender before finding the back of the net. The Bengals  fought back with a goal from Kayla Mizo in the 85th minute via Tristen Spooner, but came up short.  MORE [+]

Northern Arizona 2 :: 4 Eastern Washington 
The Eagles held a three-goal advantage at the break against the Lumberjacks. Chloe Williams (Spokane, WA) started things off with a goal and assist, finding the head of Jenny Chavez with a corner 18 minutes into the contest and then scored herself courtesy of Abby Klinkenberg in the 37th. Delaney Romero (Yakima, WA / Walla Walla CC) scored 15 seconds before the break on a cross from Savannah Hoekstra (Spokane, WA). Williams set up another goal in the 62nd minute of the contest, finding Tasha Luu (Colville, WA / CC Spokane) for what proved to be needed insurance as NAU rallied with two late goals, getting one in the 77th and another that was set up by Ashlynn Curnow (Boise, ID) in the 87th.  MORE [+]

Idaho 4 :: 1 Northern Arizona
Four different players scored again for the Vandals, but the game was put out of reach early with all four coming in the first half. Baggerly connected on a free kick just over seven minutes in to grab the lead. Clara Gomez created a turnover in the 22nd and fed Battan to push the lead to two. Five minutes later a corner from Schlossarek that was headed by Kelly Dopke to Lloyd for the finish. Dopke also scored off a corner, nodding in a ball from Gomez in the 36th. Poertner made eight saves in the game and was minutes away from another shutout when NAU struck in the 86th.  MORE [+]

Montana 0 :: 1 Weber State 
The hosts, who were idle Friday, scored in the 27th minute of the contest and made it stand for the win.  MORE [+]

The Eagles had a 20-12 advantage in shots, but were unable to find the back of the net with the visiting keeper making 10 saves.  MORE [+]

After falling behind seven minutes in, the Bulldogs rallied on back-to-back goals to grab the lead before the 17-minute mark. Lexi Clark stripped the ball off a Don defender and scored from about 25 yards on the right side to even things up in the 14th minute and three minutes later Karley Baggerly beat two defenders as she drove into the middle of the box from the left flank to slip the ball in at the near post. The visitors tied it up, though, in the 34th and managed to get the lone goal of the second half for the victory in the 71st.  MORE [+]

Back on their own home turf for Senior Day, senior midfielder Brooke Heidemann delivered yet again with a game-winner in the 71st minute in which drove through a number of players and scored from about 16 yards. She also helped create the first goal as she and Hannah Smith applied pressure. Heidemann blocked the first clearance and Smith blocked the second attempt, this time with the deflection looping over the goalkeeper from 15 yards off the deflection in the second minute of the second half.   • After missing two games (both losses) for concussion issues, Kara Marbury (Spokane, WA) made a brilliant return Sunday afternoon for Illinois, scoring on two headers in a 3-1 victory against Nebraska. She tallied in the 52nd and 57th for a two-goal lead. Highlights [+] 
  • Julia Moravec (Spokane, WA) kept Seattle University unbeaten, setting up the first goal in the 3-0 victory Friday against CSU Bakersfield and then gave the Redhawks two important second half goals, putting them in front in the 49th and providing what proved to be the winner in the 58th in a 3-2 win against Grand Canyon. 
  • Tyler Blackmer (Boise, ID) made four saves for Wright State Saturday in a narrow 1-0 road win against Milwaukee.
