Lower Division Power Rankings - June 4

LD Soccer News @ Facebook
The weekly edition of the mixed Lower Division power rankings based on results from all competitions, including the US Open Cup. Last week's edition saw the top five teams go 4-0-1 in the Open Cup vs MLS opposition.

The top four remain the same this week, mostly because I just couldn't justify any one team jumping past another. In fact, I even considered giving 2-4 all the same ranking so they were even. The top six right now are the elite and I don't see much hope for anyone in the bottom five.

This Week (Last Week) Club (League) :: W-L-D :: Notes

(1) Orlando City (USL Pro) :: 8-1-2 :: Registered a 3-1 Open Cup upset win Tuesday against the visiting Colorado Rapids and were idle in league play.

(2) Richmond Kickers (USL Pro) :: 6-0-3 :: Took DC United to penalties in a scoreless draw in the Open Cup before being eliminated in the tiebreaker. They then  edged Phoenix 1-0 in league play Friday.

(3) Carolina RailHawks (NASL) :: 3-1-3 :: Blanked the LA Galaxy 2-0 in an Open Cup upset and then played to a 1-1 draw in Fort Lauderdale Saturday.

(4) Tampa Bay Rowdies (NASL) :: 3-2-3 :: Knocked off the Seattle Sounders 1-0 in an Open Cup upset and then went across the continent and played to a scoreless draw in Edmonton.

(6) Harrisburg City Islanders (USL Pro) :: 7-2-1 :: Picked up a pair of big road wins in league play, downing Charleston and Charlotte, both of whom played in the Open Cup earlier in the week when Harrisburg was idle, 2-1 and 4-0, respectively.

(5) Charleston Battery (USL Pro) :: 6-3-1 :: The club knocked out the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 in the US Open Cup, but fell 2-1 to Harrisburg in league play Friday.

(8) Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL) :: 4-2-1 :: Trailing since the third minute, they got a late equalizer to force overtime at RSL, eventually falling 3-2 in the Open Cup. They kept their top spot in the league despite being idle with other contenders playing to draws.

(9) LA Blues (USL Pro) :: 5-5-4 :: Earned a pair of draws on the road, playing to a 2-2 draw in Rochester Friday and then a scoreless draw in Dayton Sunday after falling earlier in the week, 2-1, to Chivas USA in the Open Cup.

(7) Charlotte Eagles (USL Pro) :: 3-2-4 :: Suffered their first home loss in league play Saturday, 4-0, to Harrisburg after losing 2-0 to the Chicago Fire.

(10) Dayton Dutch Lions (USL Pro) :: 4-2-2 :: Fell 2-1 to the Columbus Crew in the Open Cup and then played to a scoreless stalemate with visiting LA Blues Sunday.

(11) Minnesota United (NASL) :: 3-3-2 :: Fell 2-0 on the road to San Antonio.

(12) FC Edmonton (NASL) :: 2-3-3 :: Played to a scoreless draw against Tampa Bay.

(13) VSI Tampa Bay (USL Pro) :: 5-3-1 :: Had a big 4-1 lead against the Timbers reserves only to finish even at 4-4.

(15) Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) :: 2-4-2 :: Fell 2-0 at home to FC Dallas in the Open Cup and then played to a 1-1 draw against visiting Carolina in league play.

(17) San Antonio Scorpions (NASL) :: 2-4-2 :: Registered a 2-0 victory over visiting Minnesota Saturday.

(14) Rochester Rhinos (USL Pro) :: 1-7-3 :: Got rolled over by the New England Revolution 5-1 in the Open Cup and then rebounded with their first two-goal outing in a 2-2 draw against LA Blues in league play Friday, but on Sunday were 3-0 losers in Pittsburgh.

(18) Wilmington Hammerheads (USL Pro) :: 3-7-0 ::  Defeated Phoenix, which played the night before in Richmond, 2-1 on Saturday.

(19) Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL Pro) :: 3-4-4 :: Blanked the visiting Rhinos, who played the night before, 3-0 on Saturday.

(16) Phoenix FC (USL Pro) :: 2-7-3 :: Lost a pair of games on the road, falling 1-0 in Richmond Friday and 2-1 in Wilmington Saturday.

(20) Antigua Barracuda (USL Pro) :: 0-9-0 :: Good news is they didn't lose, but only because they were idle.
