On opening night of league play in the Greater Spokane League Wednesday, the Central Valley Bears downed rival University in the battle of the Muddy Cleat in one of the two close contests on the night. In the other, 3A Mt Spokane took 4A side Ferris all the way to penalties in a scoreless affair, coming away with the shootout win.
On Tuesday in the Mid-Columbia Conference and Columbia Basin Big Nine There were a pair of shootout victories amidst a slew of blowouts with Pasco nipping Chiawana after a scoreless contest in the MCC and Davis getting the better of Wenatchee in the CBBN after a 2-2 draw.

Central Valley took the lead in the 29th minute of the contest through McKenzie Claypool on a ball from Kaelyn Barnes and Anna Hilbert found Kailyn LaBrosse at the hour mark. AJ Crooks and Jenna Lauer combined for the shutout.
On the south hill Emily Nelson guided the Wildcats in the scoreless draw with Chrissy Fitzgerald matching the effort at the other end for the host Saxons. Mt Spokane took the shootout 5-4 for the victory.
Not surprisingly, in other contests Lewis & Clark downed North Central, Mead blanked Rogers and Gonzaga Prep rolled to a win over Shadle Park.
Mead took an early lead through Claire Neder in the fifth and Katie Greene in the seventh minutes. Greene added an assist on the next tally as the Panthers pulled away comfortably from the Pirates. Olivia DeShazo tallied twice and added an assist while Kylee Maldonado had a goal and assist. Brianna Krygier started in goal for Mead, but had to be replaced early in the match when she went down in a tackle at the edge of the box with an apparent shoulder injury and was replaced by forward Natalie Martell.
The Highlanders and goalkeeper Hannah Johnson made things a challenge for the Bullpups in the early going but Hannah Plank finally broke the stalemate in the 27th with a long-range strike. Darby Doyle made it a two-goal lead over Shadle Park before the break and Trudi Timperman scored a minute into the second half on a ball from Corynn Vigil, who went on to score the final goal as G-Prep pulled away.
Maddie Collins scored in the 26th minute for Lewis & Clark, but the Indians answered back immediately four minutes later through Madison Dershem for an even contest at the break. Camryn Gardner, though, put the Tigers back in front six minutes into the second half and Grace Ellis put the contest out of reach with two goals, including one from the spot.

Chiawana suffered its second loss at the hands on one-win Pasco with the two playing to a scoreless stalemate, allowing Southridge to take a firm two-game lead in the MCC table following their 8-1 thumping of Walla Walla.
In other contests, the Kennewick at Hanford match was postponed due to a power outage while Kamiakin was a 3-0 winner over Richland. Isabelle Conover scored twice with Madeline Morgan providing the other goal. Grace Wilbur and Alyssa Humphrey combined for the shutout.

In a back-and-forth affair, Wenatchee took the lead on the road in the eighth minute through Katie Springer, but Yvette Osegueda found Taty Aills in the 25th to even things up for Davis. The Panthers reclaimed the lead on a penalty from Allie Flynn in the 65th but Osegueda tied things up for the Pirates with five minutes left to send the match, ultimately, to penalties.
The other two matches were one-sided with Sunnyside drubbing Eisenhower 10-1 and West Valley blanking Moses Lake 4-0. Goalkeeper Jada Stevenson recorded the shutout with Megan Lee and Lauryn Peters each tallying a goal and assist.
