NWAC East Tonight 9.17.16: Big wins put Spokane atop both tables

All the women's sides on the road Wednesday came away with shutout victories, two of them tight 1-0 decisions, while the Walla Walla CC men were the only road team to win Wednesday, grabbing the early division lead in the table.

The Warriors' success on the road, though, disappeared Saturday as Spokane dominated in the doubleheader with a combined 9-0 scoreline. Elsewhere, it was a day of comebacks as the WVC men, TVCC men and WVC women rallied for positive results.

The results have the Spokane and Walla Walla men even at the top of the NWAC East at 2-1-0 while the Bigfoot Ladies are 3-0-0 at the top of the women's table along with nearby North Idaho College, which has benefitted from drubbings of newcomer Blue Mountain in a schedule that put them together for two of their first three games.

WOMEN  ##############

Wednesday, September 14

North Idaho 1 :: 0 Treasure Valley
Sadie Schmeling (Post Falls, ID) found Megan Lowery (Hayden, ID) 13 minutes into the contest to give the Cardinals the lead. From there, Kinzie Hunter and Tiegan Horton (Dalton Gardens, ID) split time in goal for the shutout win.

Spokane 7 :: 0 Columbia Basin
The Bigfoot rolled to the shutout win over the Hawks with six different players scoring before Jenna Sullens (Spokane, WA) capped the night with her second tally in the 72nd minute - the only goal of the second half. Cali Moscrip (Lewiston, ID) scored in the first minute via Sydney Weiler (Spokane, WA), who tallied in the 45th. After a fifth minute Erica Simpson (Post Falls, ID) goal Moscrip set up Emma Hartwig (Spokane, WA) to make it a three-goal lead. Sullens scored the fourth in the 27th via Maddy Boyd (Spokane, WA), who got on the board in the 41st. Molly Webster recorded the shutout.

Walla Walla 1 :: 0 Wenatchee Valley
Haley Berryman (Ephrata, WA) continues to be the key player for the Warriors, providing the winner in the 59th minute as Paige Kubista (Nampa, ID) made eight saves in the shutout. At the other end AdriaAnna Simmons (Ephrata, WA) made 15 to keep the contest close. Berryman has scored all three goals in WWCC's divisional two divisional contests.

Yakima Valley 19 :: 0 Blue Mountain
The newcomers just could not stop the Yaks... at all. Baneza Gonzalez-Nunez (Yakima, WA) scored five goals, Katie Balauro (Spokane, WA) three and Cami Pfliger (Richland, WA) two with nine others tallying once each in the drubbing. Addy Eckstrom (Yakima, WA) and Darci Cline (Selah, WA) split time in goal.

Saturday, September 17

Wenatchee Valley 2 :: 1 Yakima Valley
The Yaks took the early lead at home just two minutes into the contest thanks to Mayra Fuentes on a ball from Taylor Foley and held onto the advantage well into the second half before the Knights rallied. Katie Michkiosky (Wenatchee, WA) found Jennifer Mendoza in the 74th and then scored herself two minutes later

Blue Mountain 1 :: 9 North Idaho
For the second time in the course of a week, the Cardinals put up nine goals on the Timberwolves. This time, though, BMCC got their first goal in NWAC play with a strike from Damara Morales five minutes from time that spoiled the shutout. Emily Aspden scored two of the first three goals and set up the second as the Cardinals jumped to a three goal lead after 13 minutes. Seven other players accounted for all of the other NIC goals, though Jocelyn Cook (Spokane, WA), Megan Lowery (Hayden, ID) and Monique Queen (Coeur d'Alene, ID) had assists as well.

Walla Walla 0 :: 4 Spokane
A blocked shot attempt from Jenna Sullens (Spokane, WA) in the box came to Stephanie Overland (Moses Lake, WA) for the go-ahead goal in the 12th minute from the penalty arc. Seven minutes later Sydney Weiler (Spokane, WA) struck from about 30 yards with a fantastic free kick that found the mark. Sullens would later get on the board, scoring in the 39th to push the match out of reach before the break, and capping the contest with her second in the 77th. Molly Webster made three saves for the Bigfoot in her second consecutive shutout.

Treasure Valley 4 :: 1 Columbia Basin
The Chukars rolled to the victory on the road with four different goal scorers, but the first three were all set up by Chelsea Entrambasaguas.

MEN  ##############

Wednesday, September 14

North Idaho 0 :: 1 Treasure Valley
Gerardo Bartolo (Blackfoot, ID) netted his fifth goal of the year to give the Chukars the early advantage on a ball from Elia Kisimba (Boise, ID), and Flavio Betancourt (Pendleton, OR) helped do the rest with four saves for the shutout.

Spokane 1 :: 3 Columbia Basin
The Hawks jumped on the defending division champs early and did not relent thanks to Jesus Delgado (Yakima, WA), who scored in the sixth and 13th minutes for a solid lead courtesy of assists from Johnathan Mata (Grandview, WA) and Orlando Alba (Warden, WA), and completed the hat-trick in the final moments of the first half. Delgado has scored the last five goals for CBC. Jonny Cortez scored five minutes into the second half for the Bigfoot, but they were unable to complete the comeback as they have yet to score more than one goal in any of their six divisional and non-conference games.

Walla Walla 1 :: 0 Wenatchee Valley
The Warriors grabbed the early lead in the division as the only team with wins in their first two games. The victory came six from time with Missael Lopez (Tieton, WA) breaking the stalemate on a ball from Dante Pennell (Meridian, ID). Jorge Llerenas (Pasco, WA) posted the shutout for WWCC.

Saturday, September 17

Walla Walla 0 :: 5 Spokane
If you had to predict the doubleheader based on the season's results thus far, one would not have guessed by any stretch of the imagination that the Bigfoot men, who had not scored more than one goal in any of their previous games, would come away with a larger margin of victory over the Warriors than their counterparts. Three goals in the opening 19 minutes, though, left the visitors reeling and the defense kept the shutout intact to pull Spokane even with Walla Walla in the table at 2-1-0.

Jonny Cortez (Moses Lake, WA) struck off a Jared Davis free kick three minutes into the match. The Sasquatch then got back-to-back goals in the 18th and 19th minutes with Breno Rocha knocking in a close-range effort on a ball that deflected off Chase Riedt (Spokane, WA), who scored himself a minute later via Cortez's assistance. Eric Sanchez-Flores scored three minutes before the break and Cortez added a second goal in the 71st from Ivan Adame. Kevin Alvarez made three saves for the shutout.

Treasure Valley 2 :: 2 Columbia Basin
With strikes in the 24th and 84th minutes Esteban Ojeda (Walla Walla, WA) gave the Hawks a two goal lead with six minutes left to play at home in what looked a certain win. The Chukars, however, had plenty of fight left apparently. Hadir Saad (Twin Falls, ID) tallied in the 87th and then Gerardo Bartolo (Blackfoot, ID) scored in the 88th to tie the contest up.

Wenatchee Valley 3 :: 1 North Idaho
The Knights found themselves down after 15 minutes from a Max Mularski (Coeur d'Alene, ID) goal, but rallied behind Lenin Guzman (Connell, WA), who tallied in the 32nd to pull even before the break. Four minutes into the second half he put WVC in front and four minutes later Estaban Gonzalez (Leavenworth, WA) added some insurance. After a pair of shutout losses, the goals were the Knights' first in divisional play.
