In one of the most shocking results in at least 10 years, Rogers defeated Central Valley in a shootout after a 1-1 draw. That, however, may change as the match is currently under protest. Meanwhile, the rest of the GSL title contenders all picked up victories Wednesday and the leaders in the MCC, GNL and NEA all took care of business in their other respective matches.

Central Valley 1-2 (SO) Rogers - Under Appeal
In a surprising match at Rogers, the Pirates took the Bears to the second half in a scoreless stalemate before Devin Hauenstein put the powerhouse on the board in the 56th after a free kick deflected off the crossbar. Ihor Kruhlyi, however, quickly answered for the hosts just two minutes later with just the third goal this season for the Pirates. The two remained deadlock, taking the match to overtime where the controversy erupted. A penalty for the Bears, who missed one early in the second half, was converted for the victory, but the referee negated the goal as three CV players had encroached on the attempt. Mistakenly, though, the official awarded Rogers a goal kick instead of replaying the penalty, a misapplication of the Laws of the Game. From there the game would roll on to a shootout to decide the outcome and Daunte DeMarce made two saves to give Rogers the 5-4 win in a six-round shootout. According to the data compiled by INWsn (through 2011), Rogers has not posted a league win over a 4A school in the past eight years, but has come close a few times. In 2016 they lost in a shootout to Mead before going on to stun everyone with a pair of wins in the 3A playoffs, and in 2014 they lost in a shootout to Gonzaga Prep and fell in a shootout to University.
Due to the misapplication of the Laws of the Game, the match result has been appealed by Central Valley. The appeal is currently in the hands of the GSL athletic directors, who must make a decision by Monday. CV is requesting to begin a replay from the point of the penalty kick. Next week is the final week of the regular season. Were it a FIFA match, the decision would typically be to replay the entire game. Read more about FIFA PK Rules [+] in this scenario.
Ferris 2-1 North Central
A fifth consecutive goal for the Saxons by Caden Martin put Ferris in front in the 11th minute against the 3A leaders, but January Byembabazi scored 11 minutes into the second half via Aidan Chaparro. Celebration was short-lived, however, for NC as Liam Kelly quickly answered just two minutes later with what held as the game-winner for the Saxons.
University 2-0 Shadle Park
The contest nearly went to the break scoreless, but Tim Gies put the Titans on the board just as the contest rolled into stoppage time when the ball popped out to him at the top of the box. He fired the long shot home for the lead. Midway through the second half a great individual effort from Diego Garcia added some insurance (see at 10:45 mark on INWsn LIVE LOOK IN on Facebook). Jaymon Manzi finished with his fourth shutout of the league campaign, putting him in a tie with Gonzaga Prep's Isaiah Damschen.
