HS Update 4.13.18: Pasco, Pullman & NC Suffer First Losses

Only two sides - Gonzaga Prep and Lakeside - remain unbeaten in Eastern Washington. Pullman suffered its first defeat during spring break and Pasco dropped their contest Tuesday evening in a stunning 5-1 scoreline at Kennewick in the MCC, but rebounded with a resounding win against co-leader Richland Thursday. On Wednesday, the Bullpups knocked North Central off the list in a battle of unbeatens as the GSL returned to play following the break.

Greater Spokane League

Prep has a tough road ahead of them having only played one 4A opponent thus far (CV in a 1-0 shootout win). Right behind them in the table are Central Valley, which has already played four of their five opponents in 4A, and the duo of Ferris and Lewis & Clark. North Central, meanwhile, still has a healthy five-point lead on second-place 3A side Mt Spokane.

Gonzaga Prep 2-0 North Central
In what was a competitive and evenly-fought contest, the two unbeatens were locked in a tight affair that saw plenty of possession for underdog North Central, which had several early chances that forced quality saves from Isaiah Damschen. In the end, though, Prep's stellar defensive record held up as they posted a fourth shutout in as many league games. The Bullpups would break through for the opener in the 26th when a Mitchel Torre ball from the right was nodded in by Ethan Watkins. The one goal difference created plenty of drama and the close contest went down to the wire before Luke Denke locked up the result in stoppage time with a fantastic run from about 50 yards out, beating a few NC defenders as he worked his way up the middle and left side before firing from about 15 yards out. Check out the winner captured during LIVE LOOK IN on Facebook (9:50 mark).

Pasco finished the first run through its opponents unbeaten with seven wins, but Kamiakin was a tough beat in their second meeting, 2-1, on Friday after winning by four in the first and Kennewick handed them that eye-opening first loss Tuesday evening. The loss allowed Richland to pull even with the Bulldogs at 8-1 for the season, but it was short-lived with Pasco thumping them 4-0 in a Thursday night tilt. The Lions, meanwhile, are comfortably ahead in the 3A class with that win at 6-3, a five-game advantage over Kamiakin.

Great Northern League / Northeast A League

Despite suffering their first loss of the campaign, Pullman still holds a two point lead over Clarkston. The Bantams, since their last loss to Pullman, have scored at least three goals in each of their three games since for three straight wins to keep close. Lakeside is rolling through the NEA with a 6-0 record. They face Riverside Thursday night before facing what may be their stiffest test versus Medical Lake on Saturday.

Here is the first edition of the statistical tables. The leagues are combined solely to simplify everything into one list instead of four and not for league-to-league comparison due to varying games played and quality of competition. PARENTS... note that several games and details are missing (particularly in MCC/GNL/NEA). I do my best to request from coaches, but often without reply. Be sure to nudge your coach about making sure your teams are fully covered!!!
