NWAC East Update 09.30.19: North Idaho Women Blank Columbia Basin


In the marquee result of the weekend, North Idaho became the first side to shutout Columbia Basin in 12 games this season, battling to a scoreless draw against the Hawks.

In other women's action Wenatchee Valley and Blue Mountain played to a draw, giving both their first points of the season, but the Knights fell the next day at Treasure Valley, which earned their first win to move off the bottom.

Meanwhile, the WVC men used wins over BMCC and TVCC to catapult to the top, a point ahead of the idle Sasquatch.

Friday

W - Blue Mountain 1-1 Wenatchee Valley... Scoreless through the first half, Emilie Tangeman (Spokane, WA) found Erin Aamold (Wenatchee, WA) in the 52nd minute for the Knights. The Timberwolves, however, tied things up with 10 minutes remaining when Alyssa Wood (Preston, ID) scored via Milly Suarez.


W - Treasure Valley 2-5 Yakima Valley... Corynn Vigil (Spokane, WA) proved to be a nightmare for the Chukars with four goals on the day. She put the Yaks in front six minutes in and Maddie Hoffman (Clarkston, WA) scored the other Yaks goal in the ninth via a penalty. Elexus Nochebuena (Blackfoot, ID) found Mary Calley (Pocatello, ID) in the 26th to give the visitors some hope before Vigil rattled off three consecutive. Emmie Woodward found her in the 36th and again just seconds after the intermission. Vigil registered the fourth in the 58th to put the game out of reach with Nochebuena tallying the second Chukars goal in the 84th.

Saturday

W - Blue Mountain 0-1 Yakima Valley... Vigil picked up where she left off Saturday, but it took over an hour before she would put the dominating Yaks on the board in a game in which they outshot the Timberwolves 21-1. Her winner came in the 63rd via Natalie Wright. Brynlee Ward (Pocatello, ID) registered the easy shutout without making a save while Mariel Salinas-Duran (Walla Walla, WA) made 10 stops in one-sided affair for the narrow loss.


W - North Idaho 0-0 Columbia Basin... The Hawks outshot the Cardinals 15-5, but Kaysha Bailey (Lewiston, ID) made nine stops to keep them off the board for the first time this season. RiaJo Schwartz (Wapato, WA) made three stops at the other end for her shutout.


W - Treasure Valley 3-2 Wenatchee Valley... Tangeman scored her second of the weekend in the 31st for the Knights and Aamold made it two four minutes before the break. The second half, though, belonged to the Chukars. Brenda Trejo (Ontario, OR) quickly put them on the board in the 50th. Nochebuena then found Hannah Simpson (Star, ID) for the equalizer three minutes later and scored the winner in the 76th.

Friday

M - Blue Mountain 0-3 Wenatchee Valley... Luis Rodrigues (Royal City, WA) scored five minutes in and then again in the 30th as the Knights took control early. Luis Navarrete (Wenatchee, WA), who set up the second, tallied himself in the second half to lock up the result and Alexis Calderilla (Wenatchee, WA) finished the shutout with three stops. Ignacio Castillo (Quincy, WA) and Jose Camarillo (Wenatchee, WA) also earned assists.

Saturday

M - North Idaho 1-3 Columbia Basin... Sebastian Ramos (Richland, WA) found Juan Mendoza (Yakima, WA) 10 minutes into the contest for the Hawks opener and Jason Cortes (Kennewick, WA) made it two six minutes later off a ball from Brian Licona (Sunnyside, WA). NIC pulled one back in the 34th Noah Dreves (Spokane, WA) finished off a cross from Mac Stultz (Sagle, ID). Kevin Meraz-Rodriguez (Pasco, WA) got behind the defense in the 68th, allowing him to find an open Ramos to clinch the victory.


M - Treasure Valley 3-4 Wenatchee Valley... In a back-and-forth thriller Navarrete gave the Knights a two-goal lead via Castillo and Erik Owen (Wenatchee, WA) in the 18th and 26th minutes. The Chukars, though, erased the deficit before the break with Colton Middleton tallying in the 34th and Hector Arreola (Caldwell, ID) in the 35th. Three minutes after the break Navarrete found Camarillo to put the Knights back in front but Arreola struck again in the 73rd for TVCC. Castillo, however, provided the winner seven minutes from time for the dramatic win.

Around the NWAC: Diego Gomez (Sunnyside, WA) scored the first three goals for Skagit Valley in a 4-1 win at Whatcom... Emmanuel Lopez (Wenatchee, WA) scored the final goal for Peninsula in a 6-0 win at Shoreline.
