Holiday action round-up; Northwest Nazarene recaps

It was a busy holiday Monday for Montana schools Rocky Mountain College and Great Falls, as well as  Northwest Nazarane. Also in action Monday was Spokane Shine player Stacy Hamer, who had two goals for Southern Oregon.



Heffernan involved in five RMC goals
Rocky Mountain 3 :: 0 Evergreen - Women
RMC continues to dominate and Kirsty Montignani led the way with two first half goals. She beat the keeper for an empty-netter to open the scoring in the 33rd and struck again on a chip five minutes later. Samantha Houle capped the scoring with three minutes left.

Rocky Mountain 6 :: 3 Evergreen - Men
In a game that was not as close as the score indicated, Nick Heffernan led the Battlin' Bears with a spectacular performance, scoring once and setting up four others. Brandon Loeffler opened the scoring from six yards in the 12th minute. From then on, Heffernan directly contributed in the scoring. He doubled the lead directly off a 22-yard free kick in the 20th and then connected with a sprinting Oliver Gore, who scored from the top of the box a minute later, and Loeffler, who netted in the 26th from inside the six. An own goal two minutes later and a strike from Brandon Wood in the 51st cut the lead in half, but Heffernan found Michael Eggen (Billings, MT) a minute later and Mikey Wall (Billings, MT) in the 61st to restore the four-goal advantage. Brady Espinoza (Pasco, WA / Walla Walla CC) would add the final Evergreen goal in the 65th. - MORE

Great Falls 4 :: 1 Westminster - Men
Conference rivals met for the first time in Frontier action with the nationally-ranked Argos coming out on top in Salt Lake City. Christian Johansen headed in an Anderson Cardoso free kick in the eighth minute and scored against two minutes later, finishing a cross from Manuel Espinoza from six yards out. The Griffins kept the chance of a rally alive by shutting the Argos down for the next hour before Andrew Gillen connected with Renan Zampieri in the 74th. Ryan Smith finally put the hosts on the board via a penalty a minute later with Danny Delgadillo netting his sixth of the year in the 79th to cap the score. - MORE

Great Falls 1 :: 4 Westminster - Women
The roles were reversed as the 22nd-ranked Griffins downed the visiting Lady Argos. A free kick again started the scoring with Jaime Nelson getting her head on Lorin Wathen's restart three minutes in. Rylei North doubled the lead in the 19th and Carissa Cooper (Meridian, ID) made it three-nil before the break in hte 35th when she tapped in the rebound of a Margo Hickman (Boise, ID) shot. Great Falls lone goal came in the 57th when Kayelyn Swart created a turnover and put her shot through the keeper's hands. Hickman capped the scoring on a 10-yard strike with three minutes left. - MORE

Holy Names 2 :: 5 Southern Oregon University - Women
Stacy Hamer (Spokane, WA / Spokane Shine) tallied two goals and an assist in leading the team to a third win. She opened the scoring in the 40th for the lead at the intermission and then connected with Stephanie Carr in the 56th to double the lead. Holy Names answered in the 65th to keep it close before SOU pulled away shortly after. Seren DeChristofaro set up Sydney Paulsen int eh 67 before scoring off an assist from Julie Zamzow (Boise, ID) two minutes later. Hamer capped the scoring for the Raiders in the 71st. - MORE

Northwest University 2 :: 0 George Fox - Men
Joe Galbraith (Whitefish, MT) needed only two saves in a shutout performance. - MORE

Eastern Oregon 0 :: 2 Northwest Nazarene - Women
The Crusaders opened the season up at home with a 2-0 victory over Eastern Oregon Thursday. Kellynn McDaniel (Boise, ID) set up Sarah Staropoli for a five-yard tally seven minutes in. An hour later Jenny Field (Nampa, ID) added some insurance on an assist from Staropoli. - MORE

Northwest Nazarene 2 :: 0 Academy of Art - Women
The Crusaders hit the road for two in California, opening things well Saturday when Celina Mortensen sending in a cross that Yturbe nodded in from two yards 19 minutes in. Field found Sarah Blum (Troy, ID) just after the half-hour mark. - MORE

Northwest Nazarene 2 :: 3 Notre Dame DeNamur - Women
Three games in five days may have caught up to the Crusaders Monday against the Argonauts as they fell behind on goals in the 28th and 60th minutes. They responded well, however, with Fields and Staropoli each getting their second of the week to pull even. Fields scored in the 68th off a free kick from Macey Vasquez (Boise, ID) and Staropoli got the equalizer six minutes later off a loose ball. The hosts, though, got by the defense a final time in the 78th for the deciding tally. - MORE

CSU-Los Angeles 2 :: 1 Northwest Nazarene - Men
Playing in Utah, the Crusaders opened the two-game set in St. George Saturday against the eighth-ranked Golden Eagles and fell behind quickly when Antti Arvola delivered a through ball to Tyler Perez, who scored from 18 yards out. Arvola set up Rosario Bras to double the lead in the 56th before Jon Curry got put Northwest Nazarene on the board in the 76th from 27 yards out. - MORE

CSU-San Bernardino 0 :: 0 Northwest Nazarene - Men
In the second match Monday the Crusaders battled to a scoreless draw against the California side with Alfredo Ontiveros stopping eight shots for the clean sheet. - MORE
