It was all good news on Friday for the state of Montana, starting with an upset victory over a nationally ranked school by MSU-Billings. The University of Montana picked up a road win over Bronco Invitational host Boise State as well and Rocky Mountain College's two teams swept with a pair of 2-1 wins against Trinity Lutheran. In a battle for state pride, Idaho State blanked Idaho.

Colorado School of Mines 0 :: 1 MSU-Billings
Montana State University-Billings delivered a rather big upset Friday as the Yellowjackets defeated nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines, 1-0, in their first match of the regular season. After holding off an early test from the No. 5 ranked visitors, MSUB went on a surge of their own to close out the first half. The Yellowjackets picked up where they left off before the break but still could not put anything past Jayln Yates before momentum switched again. Aiko Johnson, however, was strong in goal in her freshman debut with six saves. The lone strike finally came off the foot of sophomore midfielder Chelsea Shuman (Kalispell, MT) in the 78th minute of the contest, curling past Yates into the right corner. - MORE

BRONCO INVITATIONAL

Montana 1 :: 0 Boise State
A return home for the Broncos after losses last week in Washington to WSU and Gonzaga was not as good for Boise State as the return to the northwest was for Montana, which lost a pair in Texas a week ago. Despite having nine shots on goal to the hosts' one, it took 65 minutes for the Grizzlies to get on the board when junior Mary Makris (Emigrant, MT) put the ball behind the BSU defense for Erin Craig (Great Falls, MT), who fired from the side of the area inside the far post. The victory was the third in two seasons against Boise State. - MORE

Idaho State 2 :: 0 Idaho
The Bengals are off to their first 4-0 start since 2004, and its courtesy in large part to Rachel Strawn, who scored yet again as Idaho State got the better of one their state rivals, posting a 2-0 victory against the Idaho Vandals. Idaho State jumped to the advantage and doubled it quickly with two goals three minutes apart. Strawn struck for her sixth of the year in the 16th minute and Anna Pingree (Boise, ID), who had a pair of assists last week, nailed a volley off a Allyson Stainbrook corner. Maria Dela Cruz finished off the half with four assists and Sheridan Hapsic made two more as the second half keeper in the shutout performance. - MORE: ISU  UI

Bronco Invitational - Sunday: Montana v Idaho, BSU v ISU

Rocky Mountain College 2 :: 1 Trinity Lutheran - Men
It was Oliver Gore once again for the Battlin' Bears with his 85th minute winner coming from the spot after defender Jamie Evans was taken down in the box. More important, though, was the equalizer from Brandon Loeffler (Butte, MT) 10 minutes earlier off a corner from Evans.

Rocky Mountain College 2 :: 1 Trinity Lutheran - Women
Freshman striker Mandi Achten (Billings, MT) gave the visitors the advantage after 15 minutes with a shot to the right corner. Scoring her fifth of the campaign, Kirsty Montignani hit the upper corner from long distance with 10 minutes remaining for what would be the winner as the hosts would answer five minutes later in an attempted rally.

North Idaho College M & W
The school is playing host to the Cardinal Classic. They both played Northwest College (Wyoming) Friday, but there is no report available at this time.
