HS Daily - 3.22.17: Eisenhower, Walla Walla make early waves

The bottom two sides in the Mid-Columbia Conference and Columbia Basin Big Nine in 2016 ago are off to great starts this spring. Walla Walla, with a win over Kamiakin Tuesday, has already picked up two wins in three games to start the season after going winless a year ago. Eisenhower, meanwhile, topped last year's co-leader Davis to sit atop the CBBN with Wenatchee at 2-0.

The results came on a night full of close contests with four of the seven going beyond regulation and another decided by one goal. Walla Walla's winner from Elejandro Espana broke a scoreless deadlock with just two minutes remaining in overtime and Kennewick got the better of Hanford, 2-1, on a penalty converted by Eddie Castillo in the fifth minute of OT.

A third MCC match went further with Southridge prevailing in a shootout after a dramatic 2-2 draw at Chiawana. Down two on a goal and assist from Jason Aragon, the Suns' Azuka Osokogu found Emilio Sanchez and Jorge Mendez to erase the lead.

In a similar comeback to force a shootout, Wenatchee gave up a first half goal and were down two at the hour mark before goals from Luis Navarrete and Matt Springer over the next 10 minutes brought things level en route to a 3-2 overtime victory against West Valley in the CBBN.

Eisenhower knocked off Davis with a dramatic finish, getting the winner two minutes from time via Johnny Ramirez with Robert Gonzalez earning the shutout.

Pasco, meanwhile, rolled to an easy win against Richland with Jesus Meraz-Rodriguez scoring twice. Eastmont rolled to a 4-2 victory at Moses Lake courtesy of a 3-0 lead at the break.

Things were not quite so close in the Great Northern League and Northeast A League with 35 goals in four games.

Cheney downed visiting Clarkston 3-1 in the closest match of the day while their GNL counterparts East Valley downed last year's champion, Pullman, 5-2 in a showdown of the top two from a year ago. Dmitriy Kozenya scored twice for the Knights for the only brace in the two games.

Alberto Cisneros tallied four goals and an assist while leading Colville to a 9-2 NEA win against Riverside and Lakeside drubbed Deer Park 12-1. Field conditions pushed the Medical Lake at Newport game back to Friday.
