INW 2013 College Preview - Frontier & Cascade Collegiate Conferences at a Glance

As the two conferences continue to square off in the preseason highlighted by this week's upcoming Red Lion Challenge in Spokane September 6-7, the two NAIA conferences are preparing for their upcoming campaigns and bids for the the national tournament at the end of the year.

Not only were the Concordia men picked to win the Cascade Collegiate Conference, but they were also voted number 11 in the preseason NAIA poll where they were joined by the Frontier Conference's Rocky Mountain College, which came in at 22. On the women's side Concordia was even higher in the NAIA poll, coming in at number five while Rocky Mountain was 24.

CASCADE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE

The College of Idaho was selected to finish sixth in the conference in both the men's and women's divisions in 2013 after the women (4-5-0, 5-8-1 overall) were seventh and the men (4-8-2, 4-10-4) were sixth a year ago. The ladies are 1-1-0 after two games so far this season, falling in their opener at Carroll College and winning their second on the road in overtime, 3-2, against Biola. Both were among vote-getters in the NAIA poll. The men also posted a positive preseason result in their opener, falling narrowly, 2-1, to fourth-ranked Mid-America Nazarene.

After finishing ninth last year (1-6-2, 1-13-2) last year, the coaches in the conference selected the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers to move up another spot this year in the preseason poll. EOU already surpassed last year's win total with two wins in the preseason.

All three had respectable overall records with Great Falls (2-2-0) going 11-4-2 and Westminster (1-2-1) finishing 10-6-2. RMC won their opener and Great Falls is 1-1-0 after two games this season. Westminster, meanwhile, has already played five matches and is 3-2-0.

The RMC ladies also finished atop their conference with a 4-1-1 record against the other three members and a 14-2-2 mark overall last year. Carroll was not far behind at 4-2-0 (12-2-3) while Westminster (3-2-1) posted a respectable 12-5-1 overall record. Great Falls, however, finished without a point in league play (0-6-0) and was only 5-13-0 overall. Carroll opened their season with a win, but Westminster and Great Falls have gotten off to slow starts with 1-3-0 and 0-1-1 records, respectively.
