INW College Recap - Week 5: DI round-up; Gonzaga men top another ranked foe on the road

Fresh off of receiving their highest ranking since 1997, No. 19, the Gonzaga men continued their lengthy road series in Chicago, suffering a 1-0 setback before rebounding to defeat 21st-ranked and unbeaten Wisconsin. Meanwhile, the Washington State women remain unbeaten by adding a pair of non-conference victories in California to their ledger heading into conference play, and the ladies of Boise State finished their non-conference slate unbeaten against PAC-12 opposition (2-0-1) with a win at Arizona State before falling at 13th-ranked Baylor.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE - MEN

Conner Bevans
Friday, September 20

Gonzaga 0 :: 1 U of Illinois-Chicago
The best Bulldogs road streak in some time was bound to end at some point with five consecutive on the road, but it took a quality UIC opponent to do it as they hosted their Soccer Classic event. They ended Ryan Caballero's shutout streak at 349 minutes with the winning tally in the 36th minute. It was only the second goal the Zags have allowed this season. MORE

Sunday, September 22

The Bulldogs proved their trip to California with quality wins against 15th-ranked Santa Barbara, 2-0, and Cal Poly, who had just beaten 6th-ranked UCLA, was no fluke, handing the Badgers their first loss of the season (5-1-1). Lars Ludwigs converted a penalty after Zach Hamer (Spokane, WA) was fouled in the box 21 minutes in and Conner Bevans doubled the advantage on a ball from Andrew Owenson in the 68th.
