INW College Recap - Week 5: UGF Men's four-win week highlights Frontier, Cascade Conference results

The Argonauts had an excellent week, posting big victories over visiting Walla Walla twice midweek before traveling to Utah and posting two more, including one against conference foe and host Westminster. Meanwhile, the lady Argos were able to avenge their preview Red Lion Challenge loss to the College of Idaho, but fell at Westminster.

FRONTIER CONFERENCE - MEN  

Wednesday, September 18 

Walla Walla College 0 :: 6 Great Falls 
The Argos scored twice in the first nine minutes with Jordan Byland (Missoula, MT) putting away a rebound in the third and Andrew Gillen finishing off an Anderson Cardoso corner in the ninth. Four more players went on to add to the result, three in the second half to cruise to the win. MORE

Thursday, September 19 

Walla Walla College 1 :: 6 Great Falls 
Jordan Byland (Missoula, MT) opened the scoring again on a ball from Danny Delgadillo, who had two assists in the contest, in the 11th minute. Anthony Mota, who scored the day prior, had three in the match, two in the second half as they rolled to another victory. MORE

Johnson & Wales 0 :: 4 Westminster 
Logan Butzier (Eagle, ID) made three saves as the Griffins rolled to the home win.

Saturday, September 21 

Great Falls 4 :: 0 Westminster
Just under two minutes into the contest Alex Mendez (Bonners Ferry, ID) found Luis Torres for the first of his two goals on the day with Danny Delgadillo scoring in the fifth minute. Torres netted his second in the 69th and Lewis Derret capped the game in the 75th.

Sunday, September 22 

Great Falls 7 :: 2 Johnson & Wales (@ Westminster)
For the third time on the week Jordan Byland scored the opening goal, this time getting head on the ball inside the six on a corner from Anderson Cardoso four minutes in. Luis Torres scored the second in the 28th, the first of his two, on a breakaway and an own goal pushed the lead to three. JWU scored just over a minute into the second half before UGF ran off four straight from Hugo Gonzalz, Torres, Anthony Mota and Lewis Derret. MORE

U of Jamestown 1 :: 0 Rocky Mountain 
Joachim Soderstrom made five saves, but the Battlin' Bears were unable to find the frame against the hosts.

Abi Yanke (Boise, ID) did not need to make any saves as the Griffins shut down the Yotes with a 13-1 advantage in shots.

Carroll College 0 :: 2 Concordia 
The Saints faced stiff competition versus the fourth-ranked Cavaliers and were outshot 29-2 on the day.

Saturday, September 21 

College of Idaho 0 :: 2 Great Falls
The Argos avenged their 1-0 Red Lion Cup loss to the Yotes with a pair of second half goals from Jazmine Aguire and Danielle De La Vina in the 55th and 64th minutes from inside the six.

Sunday, September 22 

Rocky Mountain 2 :: 0 U of Jamestown
Jealene Zygmond (Billings, MT) scored the opener just over 13 minutes into the match and Missy Schultz made four saves to preserve the lead until Sam Houle locked up the result in the 90th minute.

Carroll College 0 :: 0 Southern Oregon
The Saints rebounded for a scoreless draw with Jamie Carter making five saves for the shutout performance.

Great Falls 0 :: 4 Westminster
Abi Yanke (Boise, ID) needed to make only two saves in the shutout performance as Westminster dominated play to the tune of a 29-4 advantage in shots.

Northwest Christian 2 :: 3 College of Idaho
The Yotes fell behind in the 16th but pulled even in the 35th Nicko Moreno and Brandon Smith combined inside the area, allowing Moreno to find the upper corner. They took the lead in the 72nd minute when Yan Gioseffi converted a penalty, and doubled the advantage in the 81st when Moreno took a ball from Joao Cardoso and found the bottom corner from 15 yards for what proved to be the winner. The final seven minutes were an adventure with Colin Benham-Marin (McCall, ID) stopping a penalty by Adam Crossingham (Sandpoint, ID) and the ensuing rebound in the 83rd, but was sent off four minutes later for denying a goal scoring opportunity. The ensuing Austin Crook (Bend, OR) free kick hit the upper corner, but it was all the Beacons could muster. MORE

Junior midfielder Elisea Santana (Idaho Falls, ID) scored with one second on the clock to cap the contest.

Saturday, September 21 

Northwest U 2 :: 1 College of Idaho
Trailing by two, the Yotes thought they had began their rally in the 71st only to see Joe Galbraith (Whitefish, MT) make a save on a 10-yard effort from Sydney Donaldson. A minute later the task was made more difficult when they went down a man for a red card, but they did finally find the back of the net when Jorge Brambila combined with Joao Cardoso to find Joe Bolin (Payettee, ID)with five minutes left. Evergreen 1 :: 3 Oregon Tech
Colton Grytness (Rathdrum, ID) headed in a corner for the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute.

Corban 3 :: 0 Warner Pacific
James Williamson opened the scoring in the 60th minute of the contest, heading in a free kick as they rolled to the win.

Eastern Oregon 1 :: 1 Malone University
The Mountaineers used a penalty in the 15th minute to assume the lead when Erika Whitehurst (Bend, OR) converted, and held on for the draw to remain unbeaten for the year at 4-0-1. MORE

The Griffins scored twice in each half and outshot the Yotes 13-1 for the contest.

Corban 5 :: 0 Trinity Lutheran
Tera McDonough (Boise, ID) scored twice in the contest, tallying the fourth goal in the 55th by flicking the ball over the keeper and then blasted a 17-yard effort home to cap the game seven minutes later.

Friday, September 20 

Trinity Lutheran 0 :: OT :: 1 Southern Oregon
The game was deadlocked until the second minute of overtime when Kendra Madaras-Kelly (Boise, ID) struck from 20 yards out.

Saturday, September 21 

Great Falls 2 :: 0 College of Idaho
The Yotes took the Argos to the second half before allowing two goals as UGF avenged their loss at the Red Lion Cup earlier in the season.

Corban 2 :: 1 Northwest Christian
Looking to rally from two down, Lauren Schweitzer (Bend, OR) put the Beacons on the board in the 58th minute, finishing inside the six.

Sunday, September 22 

Trinity Lutheran 0 :: 4 Concordia 
Hannah Scott found Ashley Ames (Liberty Lake, WA) to open the scoring in the 17th minute and McKayla Madison (Bend, OR) five minutes later. Erin Huisingh (Pasco, WA) tallied just 15 seconds into the second half from 24 yards out and Ames notched a second goal with a header in the 53rd.
