INW College Recap - Week 8: GNAC & NWC - MSUB, NNU finish deadlocked with each other, unbeaten for the week

INW region foes MSU-Billings Yellowjackets and Northwest Nazarene Crusaders could not get the better of one another this week with the the ladies finishing in a 1-1 draw Thursday and the men playing to a scoreless affair Saturday. The Crusader women played to another 1-1 draw Saturday against visiting Western Oregon while the Yellowjackets topped Saint Martin's 2-1. Meanwhile, Central Washington downed Seattle Pacific and Simon Fraser. In the NWC, regional foes Whitworth and Whitman squared off on the men's side with the Pirates prevailing 2-1. Whitman also narrowly defeated Walla Walla U in a non-conference contest and both schools blanked George Fox on the women's side.

Northwest Nazarene 0 :: 0 MSU-Billings 
The hosts outshot the Crusaders with Eoin Hurley making three stops and Ryan Foo registering eight saves for the visitors in the scoreless stalemate. MORE

Three saves in the shutout for Cody Lang (Spokane, WA).

South Dakota Mines 0 :: 3 Mary
Dace Moerkerke (Hamilton, MT) helped set up the opening goal 10 minutes in as the Marauders rolled to the win.

The deadlock was broken in the 74th minute when the visiting Crusaders got on the board first when Yellowjackets keeper Krystal Daniels, in her first start, missed a chipped pass from Rachel Ball (Veon, ID), allowing Kelsey Martin to finish easily. It looked like it would hold up as the winner until the hosts found a bit of fortune when Heidi Greenback shot deflected off the defense and slightly cross the line with 17 seconds left according to the assistant referee. The play was created by Alisa Sagdahl sending Amanda Perri up the right side for the cross in to Greenback. MORE

Seattle Pacific 0 :: 1 Central Washington
Defender Tarah Duty provided the lone goal and helped lead the defense in shutting out Falcons, sending the tally in off the right post from about 25 yards out on a ball from Katlyn Sargent. MORE

Simon Fraser 1 :: 4 Central Washington
Hadli Farrand helped set up two goals in the first 18 minutes to give the Wildcats a decided advantage, finding the head of Savanna Moorehouse on a corner in the 11th minute and combining with Meghan Ward to set up Danielle Brandli in the 18th. Moorehouse tallied her second of the night from 22 yards in the 41st and then set up Brandli's second in the 49th with SFU collecting a consolation tally in the 55th. MORE

Western Oregon 1 :: 1 Northwest Nazarene
Locked in another lengthy stalemate, it was the Crusaders who once again grabbed the lead when Kelsey Martin converted a penalty, ending a 496-minute shutout streak the Wolves' were in the midst of. Seven minutes later the visitors pulled even for the draw. MORE

Saint Martin's 1 :: 2 MSU-Billings
The Saints grabbed the initial lead 24 minutes in but Alisa Sagdahl found the head of Heidi Greenback in the 40th minute for her second equalizer of the weekend. Jessie Mancilla set up Agen Heffernan in the 64th minute for the winner. MORE

Walla Walla U 2 :: 3 Whitman 
The non-conference contest proved to be a challenge for the Missionaries as the visitors claimed the lead when Brook Fesler put away a rebound of a shot from Michael Martinez in the 36th. Daniel Varns, though, scored two consecutive, sending one in off a defender in the 47th and another out of the keeper's reach in the 71st - both from the top of the box. Fesler evened it back up three minutes later, however, with Clint Vorauer finishing a ball in the 89th that Trayvon Foy ricocheted off the keeper. MORE

Whitworth 2 :: 1 Whitman
The Pirates opened the scoring 22 minutes in on a free kick when Andrew French found the head of Sam Selisch and Tyler Clarke doubled the advantage in the 74th on a cross from David Starkovich. Almost immediately, though, Whitman took advantage of a lapse with Daniel Kim scoring on a breakaway. MORE

The Pirates thoroughly held the better of play, outshooting the Bruins 18-2, but had to settle for the lone strike, a fantastic finish from Kristin Wucherer, on a ball from Jackie Day in the 49th minute. INWsn REPORT

Pacific 4 :: 2 Willamette
Trailing by four since the first half, the Bearcats found two late goals courtesy in the final 10 minutes from Kinsey Keene (Eagle, ID) set up by McKenzie Andringa.

Sunday, October 13 

George Fox 0 :: 4 Whitman
Four different players got in on the scoring for the Missionaries as they rolled to the win with Kelsey Roehner scoring at the half-hour mark and Pamela London finding Mackenzie Hughes to doubled the lead five minutes before the break. Danielle Audino scored off an Elyse Laurin cross in the 58th and Hallie Swan capped the contest with a deflected strike in the 90th. The combined effort of starter Emily Davis and Haley Case for the shutout only required two saves as they outshot the visitors 26-6. MORE

Already up one, Lauren Swanson (Eagle, ID) scored on a rebounded save in the 29th minute.
