HS DAILY 9.3.18: Away We Go

The first week of play is underway for the area schools, particularly in the Mid-Columbia Conference where the addition of Hermiston and the resulting expansion of the schedule has pushed the start of league play right up to the opening weekend. Here's a round-up of those games and the many non-league matches that took place over the holiday weekend.

##  Mid-Columbia Conference  ##

Walla Walla 0-3 Kamiakin :: Even though they played the night before against Gonzaga Prep in Spokane the Braves kicked off their Saturday morning contest quickly with a goal from Ward just 30 seconds into the match. Morgan made it two five minutes later and Savage gave them a commanding lead with eight minutes left in the half.

Despite the result, Walla Walla coach Dana Evans was pleased how the opening match progressed for the Blue Devils. “We were working some kinks out in the first half, but, with some halftime adjustments, we played a great second half allowing no goals. I am proud of how they competed.“

Kennewick 0-15 Chiawana :: Umm, Summer Yates graduated, right? You wouldn't have known it seeing the scoreline, but the Riverhawks cruised to the win post-Yates quite handily. Savannah Taylor, Macey Morales and Julianna Ventura scored early to jump well out in front. Taylor added another along with a strike from Ruthie Edrington, and Alia Khoyi posted two more to make it seven at halftime. Kylee Alvarez scored the first one after the intermission. Richland 4-0 Pasco :: The Lady Bombers picked up an easy victory in their opener with keepers Sydnee Hay and Kyah Weikum not needing to make any saves. Ashley Tonthat led the way offensively with a pair of goals.
