INW Best XI - Week 2: Defenders Drobney and Ulen lead BSU, NIC to wins

Each week INWsoccernews will release lists of the week’s best performances for men’s and women’s soccer in the region, recognizing players at schools in the region or those from the area that play elsewhere in the nation.

BEST OF THE INLAND NORTHWEST XI - WOMEN

G - Brittany Houghton - College of Idaho :: Came in for the second half and blanked Arizona Christian in a 2-1 win at Westminster with five saves and then played the entire contest in a 1-1 draw against the unbeaten hosts, saving 11 shots, including a late penalty, and only giving up a headed own goal. (Saratoga Springs, UT)

D - Katelyn Benavidez - College of Idaho :: Scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Arizona Christian and set up the lone goal in the 1-1 draw against unbeaten host Westminster, who had not allowed a goal this season. (Saugus, CA)

INW WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK :: D - Kelli Drobney - Boise State :: The former striker turned defender set up both goals in a 2-0 victory at Idaho and helped lead defense in 4-1 win versus Idaho State. (Westminster, CO)

M - Michaela Roberts (Wenatchee, WA) - Wenatchee Valley College :: Scored the opener from 30 yards in a 2-2 draw and provided the lone goal in a 1-0 win on a free kick.

F - Beau Bremer - Washington State :: Scored two goals in the 3-1 comeback win against host Hawaii. (Scottsdale, AZ)

F - Brooke Heidemann (Meridian, ID) - Boise State :: Opening goal in a 2-0 road win at Idaho and scored twice in the 4-1 victory against Idaho State.

F - Sofia Huerta (Boise, ID) - Santa Clara :: Hat-trick in fantastic comeback for a 4-3 win over Fresno State.

F - Sarah Melvin (Spokane Valley, WA) - CC Spokane :: Three goals and an assist in a pair of wins.

F - Meghan Pagano (Sandpoint, ID) - North Idaho College :: Tallied a hat-trick in 8-0 win over Tacoma and scored the go-ahead goal in 2-2 draw at Pierce.

F - Alisa Sagdahl - MSU-Billings :: Tallied a goal and assist in the 2-1 victory at University of Mary. (Edmonds, WA)

F - Haley White (La Grande, OR) - North Idaho College :: Five assists and a goal in a pair of wins and a draw on the week.

BEST OF THE INLAND NORTHWEST XI - MEN

G - Lupe Arceo (Royal City, WA) - Columbia Basin College :: Made seven saves only to see host Pierce get 1-1 equalizer with two minutes remaining.

G - Cody Lang (Spokane, WA) - Seattle Pacific :: Made one save in a 1-0 shutout win at Humboldt State and then made six stops in a 1-1 draw at Cal State Chico.

D - Logan Grime - Whitman College :: Nearly scored early in second half, but later found the winner, heading in the decider in a 2-1 win over Corban. (Batesburg, SC)

D - Rafael Sanchez (Selah, WA) - Saint Mary's :: Played the entire game in a stunning 2-1 overtime upset road win against fourth ranked University of Washington.

INW MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK :: D - Brady Ulen (Post Falls, ID) - North Idaho College :: Scored a pair of second half goals in a 4-0 victory over Tacoma CC and helped lead both shutout performances as they also blanked Pierce College 4-0 Saturday to post their fourth straight 4-0 win.

M - Samual Jarrett - Whitworth University :: Scored the equalizer in a 2-1 win over Corban. (Urunga, Australia)

F - Josh Alvarez (Leavenworth, WA) - Wenatchee Valley College :: Scored four of the five goals as the Knights went up five in a 5-3 road victory.

F - Vincente Flores (Touchet, WA) - Walla Walla CC :: His hat-trick opened the game in the first 27 minutes as they rolled to the 5-1 win at South Puget Sound CC.

F - Alex Opland (Rathdrum, ID) - CC Spokane :: Scored both goals for the Bigfoot in the 2-1 win at Southwest Oregon CC.

F - Mike Ramos (Spokane, WA) - Whitworth University :: Was a consistent threat throughout the match, setting up the equalizer and forced the visitors into being a man down after a foul to try to stop him.

F - Adam Talley (Newman Lake, WA) - North Idaho College :: Scored a pair of goals in both 4-0 victories on the week.
