Frontier Recap: RMC sweeps Great Falls, Carroll wins in Cali

In the Frontier Conference, Rocky Mountain College and the University of Great Falls squared off in conference play with the host Battlin' Bears getting a sweep of the Argonauts. RMC dominated in the women's match to the tune of a 5-1 victory while the men's team posted a 2-0 shutout of the 22nd-ranked side, which will likely push RMC up from the votes received list.

Brandon Loeffler opened the scoring for RMC four minutes into the second half and James Voisey added some insurance in the 80th while Joachim Soderstrom posted the shutout. Kirsty Montignani continues to be the star for RMC, scoring twice in the first half and completing the hat-trick in the 81st. Danielle Wilcox made it a three-goal game three minutes before intermission and Lauren Brophy (Helena, MT) tallied the fourth.

The Great Falls men would go on to defeat South Dakota SMT, 3-0, Saturday with RMC duplicating the same result the Sunday. The Argos would get two goals from Christian Johansen and one from Andrew Gillen in the win while Jose Pena registered the clean sheet.

Similarly, the Lady Argos were 2-0 winners Saturday versus Dakota Wesleyan University Saturday with the Battlin' Bears getting a 6-1 win against DWU Sunday. Mayra Castillo scored in the first half for the Argos with Kelsey Reehill getting the second half tally on an assist from Sherry Blaisdell (Stevensville, MT). Montignani posted another hat-trick for RMC, scoring the lone goal in the first half and adding two more in the wild six-goal second period. She got things going in the 55th with Brophy scoring the first of her two in the 64th before DWU answered in the 66th. Montignani restored the three goal lead less than a minute later with Brophy and Heather Lansdown finishing out the scoring.

The 24th-ranked Carroll College women, meanwhile, picked up a pair of shutout wins in California, blanking San Diego Christian College 2-0 Thursday and Biola University Friday. Kristyn Bohlander (Kennewick, WA) scored the opener at SDC on an assist from Macie Netz (Great Falls, ID) in the 34th minute with Laura Maddock adding the second four seconds before the break. Maddock would turn provider the next day on Rachell Kuntz's 24th minute 1-0 winner.

Westminster's men's team posted a 2-1 non-league win against York College Friday and a 4-1 win against Arizona Christian University Sunday. Liam Harry (Boise, ID) set up Ryan Smith for the game-winner against York and added an assist against ACU with Alex Roegiers (Boise, ID) finishing the match off with a goal. The 21st-ranked Westminster ladies also notched two wins, downing York 3-1 and Hope International University 1-0. Justine Jones (Boise, ID) set up the first of two Rylei North goals seven minutes to open the scoring against York. Margo Hickman (Boise, ID) tallied a goal and an assist. Jones would go on to connect with Hickman for the lone tally in the 63rd minute against Hope International.

There are no further men's conference match-ups between the three teams until October 14. Carroll will play host to Great Falls in the next conference match September 26.
