Weekend INW Collegiate Round-Up

Plenty of action featuring teams from around the Inland Northwest and players native to the region. Here's a round-up of the weekend's action not previously covered on the site this weekend.

INW SCHOOLS

Sunday - Eastern Washington 3 :: 1 Boise State - Women
The Eagles picked up their first victory of the year on the second day of the Viking Classic in Portland by defeating the Broncos for the first time ever in 11 years. Cassie Black, who hit the post in the third minute, led the way for Eastern, scoring in the 21st. Brittney Conway (Spokane Shine) fed Siara Byers, who doubled the lead in the 35th minute. Boise State pulled one back in the 62nd after a foul in the box. Shannon Schueren netted her fourth of campaign on her follow-up and the initial spot kick was saved by Jamie Walker. Black would cap the victory with three seconds remaining, burying a rebound inside the box. - MORE:  EWU | BSU

Sunday - Washington State 3 :: 2 Wyoming - Women
In a back-and-forth affair, the visiting Cougars needed three go-ahead goals before the lead stuck for the win. Brandi Vega opened the scoring in the 14th minute with Wyoming answering three minutes before the break. A penalty four minutes into the second half allowed Micaela Castain to score her team-leading sixth strike with a conversion in off the right post. Again, the hosts replied with a strike in the 77th minute, but Kourtney Guetlein answered immediately three minutes later when a deflected ball over the Wyoming defense gave her the chance to bury it for what stood as the winner. - MORE

Saturday - MSU-Billings 2 :: 1 Grand Canyon - Women
Though they gave up their first goal of the season 20 minutes into the match, the Yellowjackets rebounded from their first deficit with two late strikes in the final 12 minutes of the match. Chelsea Shuman (Kalispell, MT) connected with Heidi Greenback, who launched a long-range equalizer in the 79th minute, Alisa Sagdahl would head in a ball from Whitney Siler six minutes later for the victory. - MORE

Sunday - Idaho State 0 :: 2 Loyola Marymount - Women
The Bengals fell behind after just two minutes to the California side which was coming off a high having posted a 1-1 draw against the No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins. Maria Dela Cruz and Sheridan Hapsic each played a half in goal, allowing one each. - MORE

Sunday - Montana 1 :: 3 UNLV - Women
The Grizzlies could not beat the hosts in Vegas on the second day of the UNLV Nike Invitational. The Running Rebels scored twice in the first 15 minutes for a two-goal lead that stood until the final 15 minutes. Maddie Simmel helped cut the deficit in half in the 75th minute when she connected with Paytyn Wheeler, who chipped a long ball over the keeper. UNLV, though, secured the win in the 84th minute with a free kick that was headed past Kristen Hoon. - MORE

Sunday - Idaho 0 :: 6 Florida International - Women
The trip to Florida proved to be a difficult task for the Vandals as they were blanked again. Perhaps the lone highlight was a penalty kick save by Liz Boyden (Spokane, WA), who made four saves in 79 minutes of play. - MORE

Saturday - College of Idaho 1 :: OT :: 2 Northwest Nazarene - Women
The hosts got off to a quick start with Autumn Yturbe (Buhl, ID) feeding Sarah Staropoli, who put it away from 10 yards  with goalkeeper Melissa Joseph-Holmes out of position five minutes into the match. The Coyotes notched the equalizer 12 minutes later when Jessica Ayala (Eagle, ID) delivered a cross that Shea Yuma finished from 20 yards out. Just over three minutes into overtime Staropoli factored into the winner sending in a cross that was finished from seven yards out by Whitney Wood (Coeur d'Alene / Spokane Shine). - MORE | IPT

Friday - North Idaho College 2 :: 4 Northwest College - Women
The Cardinals dropped their third straight game, but rebounded well in the second half with a pair of goals from Kellsi Parson (Lewiston, ID), who drove past the Northwest defense before scoring her first. Ellie Engle (Sagle, ID) created space for herself on the right side before finding Parson for her second.

Saturday - North Idaho College 2 :: 1 Salt Lake CC - Women
The Cardinals snapped the losing streak with Emilee Cordon (Coeur d'Alene, ID) breaking the momentum with a  goal three minutes in off a through all from Callie Martin (Bozeman, MT). Engel picked up another assist, getting free again on the right and finding Alyssa Allen (Coeur d'Alene, ID) for the winner.

INW PLAYERS AROUND THE NATION

Friday - #18 Concordia-Irvine (CA) 1 :: OT :: 2 #2 Concordia - Women
The Cavaliers were tested by the California version of their namesake with Hanna Scott's first half goal matched in the second half by a great run by Megan Daniels that finished with a chip over Tori Talbutt (Boise, ID) for only the second goal of the year allowed by the Cavaliers in six games. A Jenna Peterson free kick three minutes into overtime was flicked in for the winner by Kaylynn Winwood (Nampa, ID). The victory was the third consecutive against a nationally ranked opponent as the Cavaliers blanked #12 Hastings, 2-0, and #3 Lindsey Wilson, 2-0, the week prior. - MORE

Sunday - #2 Concordia 3 :: 0 Willamette - Women
The second-ranked Concordia women picked up another shutout victory with Tori Talbutt (Boise, ID) in goal for 84 minutes as they pulled away with two goals in the second half for a 3-0 win against Willamette. Alex Blalock scored twice, netting from close-range five minutes before the break and capping the scoring in the 81st from 18 yards. Erin Huisingh (Pasco, WA) set up Hannah Kimsey for the second goal in the 63rd minute with a short pass into the area for the nine-yard finish. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Cavaliers. - MORE

Sunday - #22 Westminster 2 :: 1 Marymount - Women
The Griffins came from behind in Long Beach to pick up their fifth win of the season. Tied after the intermission, Margo Hickman (Boise, ID) connected with Alyssa Hill for the winning goal in the 61st minute, her fifth assist of the season. The Griffins were coming off their first loss of the season, a 4-0 defeat to #10 Westmont Friday evening. - MORE

Sunday - Lewis & Clark 0 :: 2 Redlands - Women
The hosts took the lead 38 minutes into the contest when freshman Summer Norquist (Boise, ID) sent a shot in off a deflection during a scramble in the box. They held on for the win with Meghan King scoring in the 65th and

Friday - Concordia-Irvine 2 :: 2 Concordia - Men
Trailing by two at thre break, the hosts rebounded in the second half with two goals and finished the game out for a draw. Patrick Allred began the rally in the 68 and Tanner French (Sandpoint, ID) unleashed a long throw-in deep in the offensive end that forced the keeper to punch the ball away. It would come to Septi Danciu, who fired it into the upper right corner.

Friday - Southern Oregon 6 :: 0 Simpson - Women
Julie Zamzow (Boise, ID) capped the scoring for the Raiders, finding the back of the net with three minutes left in the game. It is the best start (4-0-1) in the program's history, though the unbeaten run ended Sunday against #18 Concordia-Irvine.

Friday - Robert Morris 0 :: 3 Air Force - Women
Sophia Lockerby (Great Falls, MT) set up Stephanie Patterson in the 55th minute for the first of her two goals in three minutes as they scored three unanswered in the second half. Defender Kim Koeppen (Eagle, ID) played a game-high 76 minutes in the match as well as the full 90 in a 1-0 win Sunday against Bryant.

Sunday - Oregon 1 :: 1 Saint Mary's - Women
After a narrow 1-0 loss Friday to Pacific, the Ducks rebounded in their second California match with Kristen Parr (Bend, OR) scoring 23 minutes into the match after driving past a defender and sending a shot in off the post. The hosts, though, would find an equalizer on a 20-yard free kick four minutes into the second half.
