HS Round-Up 9.20: Prep Wins Opening Night Thriller in OT; Lakeside Tops Freeman

Opening Day for the Greater Spokane League saw the brand new Ridgeline Falcons pick up a win, but the contest of the night proved to be Gonzaga Prep versus Lewis & Clark. The two went toe-to-toe, and as it appeared to be headed to overtime the Bullpups once again found that winning strike.

Meanwhile, NEA league play on a rare Friday saw a showdown among a pair of teams in the power trio. Lakeside, which opened against Deer Park with a loss, climbed back into the picture with a win against unbeaten Freeman.

Lewis & Clark 0-1 (OT) Gonzaga Prep

In a thrilling nailbiter, the host Bullpups prevailed with just under three minutes remaining in overtime. The Tiger defense - playing in front of a pair of JV keepers after starter Bailey Cook went down with injury during warmups - kept the game a chess match throughout as Gonzaga Prep spent the entire evening trying to find a way to break through.

Ferris 1-3 Lewis & Clark

A corner kick converted six minutes into the contest looked like it would be the scoring on the day as it took over an hour before Inga Mitchell added to it by beating the Ferris keeper at the top of the box. A free kick from Taylor Cargile made things interesting in the final minutes, but the Saxons' hopes were dashed minutes later with another tally from the Tigers.
