INW Collegiate Recap - CCC & Frontier: Yotes struggle, Westminster prevails vs RMC

 It was a tough week for the College of Idaho. The Coyote women dropped a narrow one-goal decision to unbeaten Concordia before posting a big win, but the men suffered a pair on 1-0 defeats. In the Frontier Conference, Westminster got a good split with Rocky Mountain, winning men's contest and playing to a draw in the women's.

Idaho native Tori Talbutt (Boise, ID) got the better of the Coyotes, making two saves as Concordia found a winner from Alicia Alarcon-Evans, who flicked a shot into the upper corner past Melissa Holmes-Joseph, who made seven saves before the deciding goal. – MORE

The Coyotes rebounded to an easy win on a four-goal first half. Jessica Ayala (Eagle, ID) delivered a through ball in the eighth minute that Sarah Hicks (Boise, ID) picked up on the right side and beat the keeper for the opener. A shot from Brianna Strodtbeck (Boise, ID) from 25 yards rebounded out to Sydney Woods (Meridian, ID), who finished to double the lead in the 38th. Less than a minute later Brittney Lacey (Boise, ID) sent a cross into the middle of the box where Mekenzie Messick (Weiser, ID) flicked it in. Strodtbeck notched another assist in the 40th when she found Brianna Blair (Nampa, ID) for an 18 yard chip over the keeper. – MORE

The Raiders took a commanding advantage with two strikes in the first half. Stephanie Carr netted the first from 17 yards out in the 33rd minute to become the school’s all-time goal leader (33) and Stacy Hamer (Spokane, WA) doubled the lead four minutes later from 11 yards out. Carr connected with Julie Zamzow (Boise, ID) in the 71st to cap the contest. – MORE

In a three-goal second half thriller, the visitors came out of the break with the lead on a strike in the 41st minute when Lauren Brophy (Helena, MT) flicked the ball to Jaelene Zygmond (Billings, MT), who banged it in from 20 yards off the right post.  Ten minutes into the second half Justine Jones (Boise, ID) received the ball on the right flank and fired it across the box to Jaime Nelson for the equalizer. Rylei North gave the Griffins the lead in the 82nd minute, but the Battlin’ Bears answered back with an equalizer of their own when Kirsty Montignani scored off a 30 yard free kick. – MORE

Christa Saur (Boise, ID) scored the go-ahead with a low drive goal seven minutes before the break to give her nine on the season, but the visitors answered in the 58th minute for the draw. – MORE
