Big Sky Plus - 10.13.17 DI Round-Up: Eagles Win Big Sky Top-of-Table Clash

Unbeaten Eastern Washington took care of business in what proved to be fairly easy fashion in a first-place showdown with Portland State Friday afternoon, and with Montana claiming a narrow win via overtime at Idaho, they will face a second consecutive top-of-the-table clash Sunday against the Grizzlies. Montana's win also left Idaho, by virtue of other results, in last place in the Big Sky a year after winning the regular season title.

DI Results from Thursday/Friday...

BIG SKY ROUND-UP ####

Portland State 0-3 Eastern Washington
In a showdown of the top two in the league the Eags dominated with a 25-2 advantage in shots. A free kick from M'Kenna Hayes found Jenny Chavez for the opener in the 37th minute for the lone goal of the first half. Chloe Williams tied the Big Sky career goals record with her 39th tally in the 48th minute on a great individual effort, beating several defenders at the edge of the box before firing for the second goal. The career goals record was set by Amanda Ellsworth of Idaho State (2011-14). After a Viking send-off in the 64th, the Eags held a firm grasp on the result and Aimie Inthoulay finished the match off with a goal in the 72nd set up by Hayes and Allison Raniere.

Montana 1-0 OT Idaho
The two sides battled in a scoreless stalemate well into overtime before a corner kick banged around in the box for a bit until it popped out to Allie Lucas for a nice strike from the top of the area for the win in the 98th. Claire Howard made two saves for the shutout while Makayla Presgrave did well to send the match to overtime with seven stops for the Vandals, who were outshot 15-8.

Idaho State 3-6 Sacramento State
Things looked alright for the Bengals initially with a goal from Michaela Didericksen in the 19th minute and a level 1-1 contest at the break. Then it all went off the rails. The hosts scored three consecutive from the 52nd to 54th with the third coming via Caitlin Prothe (Spokane, WA). Didericksen scored again in the 71st to pull back within two, but Prothe tallied again in the 80th. ISU's Brooke Kortekaas struck in the 86th with the hosts adding yet another in the 88th.
