The GSL 4A fifth-seed Titans are on a roll. Two nights after knocking Gonzaga Prep out in the opening round University traveled to the Tri-Cities and handed top-seeded Chiawana Railhawks a surprising 1-0 defeat as the rest of the field began postseason play Wednesday night.
The other three 4A contests were also shutouts with Mead topping Hanford, Richland edging Lewis & Clark and Central Valley rolling to a big win over Walla Walla.
In the 3A bracket, the number two seeds both advanced with shutout wins as well with Southridge prevailing in overtime in a one-goal affair against Shadle Park and North Central taking care of matters against Kennewick.
Chiawana was the lone home / higher seed to fall on the night.
PLAYOFF RESULTS
4A - University 1-0 Chiawana
Kelsey Crosby was again the hero, leading the Titans to the win with the game-winning goal in the 71st minute on an assist from Sophia Orndorff. The only previous shutout they suffered was at the hands of league-winner Kamiakin while star Summer Yates was on international duty at the start of the season. [Day After Note: Chiawana is without Yates again, attending U17/U18 US WNT Camp in southern California running Oct. 21-28]
