INW College Recap - Week 8: Spokane, Walla Walla split NWAACC East showdown, NIC splits with Dakota County

The top two programs in the NWAACC East met Wednesday in two evenly-fought matches that featured thrilling second half action. In the first match, the Sasquatch women of Spokane scored twice to get their first win over the Warriors in many years. The men nearly went scoreless before WWCC found a late goal, creating late drama. The Spokane men were then upset over the weekend, falling at Treasure Valley.

NWAACC EAST - MEN

Wednesday, October 9 

Walla Walla 1 :: 0 Spokane
In a close-fought contest it looked it might go scoreless until Mario Guizar (Kennewick, WA) took advantage of the space given to him and fired from the edge of the box, finding the corner of the goal in the 89th minute. The game wasn't quite over though as Spokane hit the woodwork multiple times in a frenzied finish in the final minute plus stoppage time. Ulisses Faurrieta held on for the shutout with five saves. Treasure Valley 1 :: 4 Columbia Basin
Erik Ruiz put the Hawks up two with goals in the fourth and 20th minutes of the contest. They made the difference three when Marco Marmolejo (Yakima, WA) found Daniel Hernandez in the 70th. The Chukars answered two minutes later when Sidronio Rangel (Fruitland, ID) scored on a ball from Luis Oseguera (Blackfoot, ID), but Guillermo Silva (Yakima, WA) capped the scoring for the Hawks with three minutes left courtesy of Ivan Balbuena.

Antonio Madera recorded the shutout for the hosts.

Spokane 2 :: 4 Treasure Valley
Brian Clark put the Sasquatch on the board just three minutes in, but the Chukars ran off four consecutive to post the upset. Uriel Anguiano (Burley, ID) found Everardo Bartolo (Blackfoot, ID) in the 11th and Robbie Smith (La Grande, OR) connected with Adrian Amezquita three minutes later to take the lead. Bartolo added a second in the 69th and then set up Vinicius da Silva with seven minutes left to lock up the win. Clark set up the final tally put away by Xavier Day (Cheney, WA).

Sunday, October 13

Walla Walla 1 :: 0 Dakota County (@ North Idaho) 
The Warriors took a side trip over the border to face Dakota County in a non-conference affair at North Idaho College and found the winner with nine minutes left courtesy of Saif Al Rikabi on a ball from Michael Mollay (Boise, ID). Derek Carver made six saves for the shutout.

Walla Walla 0 :: 2 Spokane
The Sasquatch defense kept the Warriors from finding any good looks and it paid off as they finally scored in the 71st when Tasha Luu (Colville, WA), moved back forward from her midfield position on the day, scored on a fantastic strike off a ball from Rashelle Fisher. A speedy counter started by Fisher with two minutes left was continued with Laura Seymour (Spokane, WA) connecting with Rainey Pelzel for the insurance tally. Emily Moscrip (Lewiston, ID) made five saves for the clean sheet. INWsn REPORT

Treasure Valley 0 :: 1 Columbia Basin
The match was deadlocked until Megan Young (Kennewick, WA) broke the stalemate with four minutes remaining. Both keepers were busy on the day with Dakota Wickard (Pullman, WA) making eight stops in the win and Kelsey Blacks making 11 in the loss.

Wenatchee Valley 3 :: 0 Yakima Valley
The Knights held a two-goal lead at the break on goals from London Cleverly (Moses Lake, WA) in the 19th and Daniela Vargas (Wenatchee, WA) in the 41st. That score remained until Alma Franco capped the game in the 89th. Kirsten Flones (Wenatchee, WA) made 12 stops for the shutout.

Saturday, October 12 

Spokane 5 :: 1 Treasure Valley
The Bigfoot scored back-to-back goals with Tasha Luu (Colville, WA) finding Rainey Pelzel for the opener in the 13th and Kat Tsoukalas (Kennewick, WA) connecting with Rashelle Fisher a minute later. Regan Hyde (Preston, ID) pulled one back in the 22nd for the Chukars courtesy of Sierra Martinez (Boise, ID), but the Spokane squashed any hopes of a full comeback with three goals in the final four minutes. Fisher fed Tsoukalas in the 86th and then scored two herself in the 88th and 89th minutes, the second from Pelzel.

Columbia Basin 2 :: 1 Wenatchee Valley
The Knights took the initial lead in the 15th minute when Elida Leyva (Wenatchee, WA) connected with London Cleverly (Moses Lake, WA). It would not hold though as the Chukars rallied in the second half with Mykenzie Lilly equalizing in the 66th and Kennedy Woodrich (Kennewick, WA) finding the winner in the 75th on a ball from Stephanie Wilson (Kennewick, WA).

Walla Walla 4 :: 1 Yakima Valley 
The Warriors rebounded from the loss with a dominant performance in Yakima. Lexi Miller (Pasco, WA) put them up nine minutes in and Brigit Lyons (Walla Walla, WA) made the lead two in the 38th. Alli Madril (Boise, ID) scored in the 48th on a ball from Delaney Romero (Yakima, WA) and added a second in the 79th a minute after Emma Avalos (Yakima, WA) found Ana Lugo (Sunnyside, WA) for the lone Yaks tally.
