While the other two unbeatens Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep rolled to large victories, the Mead Panthers fell into a big hole early and despite rallying came up short against Lewis & Clark in their first loss of the Greater Spokane League campaign.
Here's a look around the action from Friday night...
GSL #####
Mead 2-3 Lewis & Clark: The Tigers pounced early against one of the league leaders with goals from Rebekah Reason and Camryn Gardner in the opening 10 minutes. Just three minutes in Taylor Kenney found Reason, who went on to beat the keeper one-on-one for the opening tally. They were the first two goals allowed by the Mead defense this season.
Seven minutes later a cross from Carolyn Moravec was put away by Gardner. The Panthers got a key goal in the final moments of the half, though, when Kylee Maldonado first-timed a cross from Sarah Wilson to cut the deficit to one.
Katie Greene wasted little time finding an equalizer in the second half via Katie Kuka, but Reason scored her second of the match for what held as the game-winner in the 63rd on a ball from Grace Ellis.
Ferris 1-4 Central Valley: After a scoreless first half, the Saxons surprised the Bears with the opening goal of the contest nine minutes into the second half when Madi VonBrethorst fed Myah Long. The lead was short-live, however, with Maggie Ames equalizing on a ball from Kailyn LaBrosse six minutes later. Kaelyn Barnes then scored two consecutive, tallying in the 63rd and via Kalie Crouch in the 72nd. LaBrosse finished things off three minutes from time with help from Robertson. Central Valley's Jenna Lauer made 11 saves to keep the Saxons at bay.
North Central 0-5 Gonzaga Prep: The Indians gave one of the league leaders a bit of a challenge in the early going, but a corner from Darby Doyle in the 16th minute led to the opening goal from Chelsea Le at the far post. Olivia Lauffer struck in the 34th minute to push the lead to two before intermission. Le turned provider in the 56th on Grace Cooper's strike and Corynn Vigil tallied 10 minutes later. Angel Denke fed Eva Kennar for the final tally with eight minutes left.
University 3-2 Mt Spokane: The game was not as close as the final score indicated. Julia Adair and the Crosby sisters pushed University to a three goal lead before the Wildcats struck twice in the final three minutes to give the Titans a scare.
Adair put the visitors on the board just four minutes in on a ball from Alli Smeltzer and things held on those terms until the early stages of the second half. Adair found Gracen Crosby nine minutes after the break and then scored again via Kelsey Crosby in the 59th. Emily Busch found Payton Stiles in the 77th and Ally Gockley made things tight in the 79th.
