LD COLLEGE ROUND-UP: Great Falls sweep in CCC includes upset of rival RMC

In the NAIA Cascade Conference last week, the big storyline was the fantastic weekend for the University of Great Falls Argos. The men and women swept their weekend slate against Rocky Mountain College and College of Idaho with the men grabbing headlines with a stunning 4-0 victory on the road against the eighth ranked Bears.

The Whitworth men maintained their spot atop the DIII Northwest Conference table with a pair of victories to move to 4-1-1 while Whitman is close behind at 3-1-2 following a pair of shutouts for a win and a draw at home.

Pacific 0 :: 7 Whitworth
Facing one of the current league leaders, the Pirates made Pacific's 3-1-0 record look like the opposite in a dominating performance. Moi Diaz (Spokane Shadow MFT) scored off a cross from Rylan Berriman 14 minutes in and then set up Jonah Snyder two minutes later. Christian Haas (Lewiston, ID) and Aaron Yanagi combined to set up Alfredo Ornelas for the final tally of the first half in the 37th. Diaz was not done. He tallied in the 58th and 61st for a hat-trick on the day. Haas and Sam McKay (Missoula, MT) rounded out the scoring and Jesus Nunez relieved Timmy Costa (Shadow MFT) in goal with 12 minutes left in the shutout.  MORE [+]

George Fox 0 :: 3 Whitman
Ben Freedman found Austin Betschart with two minutes left before the break to give the Missionaries the lead. Collin Faunt pushed the lead to two in the 79th minute and Freedman set up another, connecting with Eric Conte in the 87th to put the match out of reach. The hosts dominated the contest, outshooting the Bruins 23-9 in the match, using three keepers in the process of recording the shutout.  MORE [+]

The Bruins one-win Bruins surprised the Pirates with the opening goal 12 minutes in but Jonah Snyder headed in a cross from Rylan Berriman in the 34th to even things up before the break. Drew Williams (Spokane, WA / Shadow MFT) scored the winner in the 78th minute off a Kyle Morris through ball.  MORE [+]  

Pacific 0 :: 0 Whitman 
The Missionaries once again dominated the contest, outshooting Pacific 23-9. The Boxers, though, rebounded from the previous day's blowout to keep Whitman off the board. Jack Fillipponi made three saves for the hosts in the shutout.  MORE [+]

The Bruins grabbed the initial lead a half-hour into the match, but the Missionaries equalized when Eliza Van Wetter knocked in a corner two minutes before halftime. Outshot 30-14, Haley Case made 11 saves to keep Whitman in the contest for the draw.  MORE [+]

After a scoreless first half, the two sides exchangesd goals in the second with the Pioneers going in front in the 53rd. Katie Bischoff (Spokane, WA) tied things up in the 73rd for the Pirates only to see the hosts answer right back six minutes later.  MORE [+]

The Pioneers were on the board after just three minutes and held the advantage until Kristin Brady connected with Pagan Hetherington in the opening minute of the second half. Whitman, though, was unable to keep things on even terms long with the hosts striking in the 54th with the game-winner.  MORE [+]

Stephanie Wilson (Kalispell, MT) gave the Bruins the lead 24 minutes into the contest on a corner kick, but the visiting Pirates pulled even in the 44th when Katie Crowley put away a cross from Hannah Miller. The sides were deadlocked in the second half, but in overtime another corner provided the winner when Emma Weme (Sandpoint, ID) delivered the game-winning set piece to Hannah Harder.  MORE [+]

On the road facing their rival and eighth ranked RMC Bears, the Argos sent a clear message with a surprising one-sided result. Adrian Gomez scored four minutes into the match and Camilo Martinez scored in the 29th and 40th to put the match firmly in UGF's command. George Holloway scored the lone goal of the second half in the 59th. Marc Girones made four saves for the shutout.  MORE [+]

The Mountaineers nearly grabbed an early lead with Elvis Pavon heading a corner off the crossbar but came up short, giving up the lone goal three minutes before halftime.  MORE [+]

Jake Morse (Spokane, WA) set up the first goal for the Eagles eight minutes into the contest.

Multnomah 1 :: 4 Evergreen
Miguel Viramontes (Wenatchee, WA) set up the opener 11 minutes into the match and Christian Segovia (Walla Walla, WA / WWCC) doubled the lead six minute later. Tino Pantaleon (Wenatchee, WA) capped the scoring int he 90th minute.

Elvis Pavon hit the woodwork for the second time on the weekend, smacking an 18-yard effort off the post six minutes into the match. The missed chance allowed the Raiders to grab the win on an own goal when a clearance off a corner ricocheted off a fellow defender and into the back of the net in the 35th minute.  MORE [+]

Coming off the heels of their big win at Rocky Mountain, the Argos found themselves in a big hole after the first half against the Yotes. Guilherme Siquera scored five minutes in via Memhed Selimovic (Boise, ID) and struck again in the 31st on a cross from Joao Cardoso for a two goal advantage. Two goals in the span of two minutes put things back level when Cole Myers (Great Falls, MT) headed in a Christoffer Bisbo cross and Ole Cloppenburg put away a corner kick flicked on by Sam Howard, who went on to score the winning tally in the 82nd minute.  MORE:   UGF [+]   COI [+]    

Carroll 1 :: 2 Rocky Mountain
The Bears rebounded from the upset loss, taking the lead in the 24th on a penalty converted by Luca Wiechers. The Saints pulled even in the 43rd minute when Nathan Boone (Whitefish, MT) found Eli Fox (Boise, ID) for the equalizer. Just over six minutes into the second half, though, the Bears nabbed the winner via Tiago Ewald.  MORE [+]

The two rivals nearly went the distance deadlocked, but Malena Lennon first-timed a pass from Sydney Kellar in the 85th minute from just inside the box to end the Argos' seven-game losing streak. Kyra Dorvall made six saves for the shutout.  MORE [+]

Three different players gave the Mountaineers a three goal lead at the half. Mariana Madrigal tallied the first in the 22nd and Alexandria Cuaresma found Makensie Forsyth (Prosser, WA) for the second in the 27th. Tegan Daviscourt made it three in the 45th on a ball from Anna Roslander, who tallied the lone second half goal n the 78th via Natalie Mitchell. After an hour of scoreless soccer, a corner from Sydney Knieriem found Grace Ibsen (Helena, MT) to give the visiting Argos the lead two seconds after the clock hit the hour mark. Eleven minutes later a shot from Allie Boyd (Boise, ID) smacked off the post for the Yotes, but the rebound was knocked home by Jamiece Yizar (Pocatello, ID) to even things up and ultimately send things to overtime. Michaela Kueffler (Billings, MT) found Cassidy Hammons (Kennewick, WA) for the lone goal of the first half and set up the first goal after the intermission, connecting with Makayla Welch (Boise, ID) in the 52nd minute. Talya Vaira (Great Falls, MT) put the match out of reach in the 83rd via Payton Netz (Great Falls, MT) with Kueffler scoring one of her own three minutes later on a ball from Vaira. Maison O'Neill (Boise, ID) scored a late 88th minute equalizer for Regis (DII) in a 1-1 draw against Westminster and Rikki Fix (Boise, ID) scored the opener for the Rangers in a 3-0 win against Colorado Mesa.
