HS DAILY - 10.12.16: MCC's top two Southridge, Kamiakin both fall

Tuesday night was a big night in the Mid Columbia Conference as the league's top two sides were both handed losses. Hanford posted its sixth consecutive victory by handing league-leading Southridge its second loss of the year while Chiawana continued its surge back toward being a contender with a 2-1 road win against second place Kamiakin that allowed Hanford to move into second in the table.

Elsewhere, the battle for second in the Columbia Basin Big Nine continues to be a tight affair with Davis edging Eastmont on the road 1-0 to pull out of the three-way tie of 4-3-0 sides that included both teams and Moses Lake, which was idle.

In the greater Spokane area, Cheney's hopes of gaining ground in the Great Northern League were shut down emphatically at East Valley where the league-leading Knights won handily. And, in the NEA top sides Medical Lake and Deer Park both won.

Here's a look around the action from Tuesday...

MCC #####

Southridge 0-1 Hanford:  Twenty minutes into the contest Dani Mendoza caught the Suns defense by surprise with a low driven free kick from 30 yards. Front there Kaylee Winston became the second hero of the eventual upset victory, making 15 saves on the night to keep Southridge off the scoreboard despite the Suns having a 24-6 advantage in shots. It was the first time in league play that Southridge was shutout in a game and the defeat was their first in regulation with their previous loss coming via a shootout.

Chiawana 2-1 Kamiakin:  Lyndsey Ellingsen put the visiting Riverhawks on the board six minutes into the contest and Summer Yates tallied an important insurance goal in the 57th goal as Kamiakin would get one back via Aaliyah Valladares on a ball from Maddie Morgan in the 76th.

Richland 3-2 Walla Walla: The Blue Devils took the initial lead at home when Abigail Escalante found Lorena Ramirez for the opener in the 13th minute. Richland though, scored the next three, pulling even in the 32nd and taking command quickly in the second half with back-to-back goals in the 45th and 47th. Kenna Buratto pulled one back in the 67th but the hosts were unable to complete the rally. [No details available regarding Richland scorers]

Kennewick 1-4 Pasco:  No information available.

CBBN #####

Davis 1-0 Eastmont: Alyza Palma broke the stalemate between two sides battling for second, receiving a ball from Serenity Lopez and beating a defender 30 minutes into the contest to score the lone goal of the match. Eliza Berman made five saves for the shutout, keeping the Wildcats scoreless for the first time in league play.

West Valley 7-1 Sunnyside: The Rams were up four before the hosts were able to get on the board. Natalie Nagle scored in the third minute with Lauryn Peters doubling the lead five minutes later. Jordan Karnes made it three in the 10th before turning provider for Peters five minutes later. Marilyn Campos-Navarro struck for the Grizzlies in the 25th, but Ariza Juarez answered two minutes later for the visiting league-leaders. Karnes added a second goal in the 56th and Juarez followed suit with her second with three minutes left.

Wenatchee 9-0 Eisenhower:  No Information Available.

GNL #####

Cheney 0-3 East Valley:  The Blackhawks headed to East Valley trailing the league leaders looking to make up some ground as the league heads into the final few weeks, but instead the Knights controlled the contest and essentially put a lock on the top seed by making the gap eight points in the table. Though they had the better of play, EV was not able to break through until the 34th minute when a corner kick was brought down by Elle Burland and played to defender Taryn Baxter, who stepped up and sent a nice curling shot with her left foot past the keeper from the top of the box.

Twelve minutes into the second half Autumn Stewart took the ball to the endline before it got knocked back toward the top of the box where Kaitlin Harvey was charging in and one-timed it into the left side of the net to double the lead.

With about two minutes left Micaela Verdal capped the contest with a long run from midfield before firing from distance. Kari Bromley posted her fifth shutout in league play for the Knights, who have not allowed a goal in their last five matches.

West Valley 6-0 Pullman:  The Eagles cruised to the victory with three goals in each half. Chelsea Koker tallied the first two with strikes in the ninth and 19th minutes. Akylah Beitey pushed it to three a minute before halftime. The visitors quickly made it five after the break with Natalie Blair tallying in the 45th and finding Alyssa Amaan eight minutes later. Karlee Friberg finished the scoring and Kelly Fitzpatrick recorded hers and the team's first shutout in league play.

NEA #####

Colville 1-2 Medical Lake: The Cardinals held onto sole possession of first with a narrow win, but held a two goal advantage for nearly the entire second half. Mercedes Kindell delivered a through ball that Makayla Geiger collected and scored from about 15 yards with in the 16th minute. A minute before halftime an own goal doubled the Cardinals lead. Kirsten Stickney scored for the Indians, but it came in too late - in the 79th minute - for a chance at a rally.

Deer Park 3-1 Freeman: Kari Attridge put the Stags on the board in the 15th minute and Emmy Moore doubled things eight minutes before the intermission. Both sides scored once in the second half.

Why does INWsn not have every score or is missing info?? Well, that is because several programs / coaches either do not use any form of social media to at least share their scores or do not report them to INWsn or their local newspapers in a timely fashion. INWsn has attempted to reach out to league administrators (most coach contact not available) - some to no reply at all. If you would like to see your soccer team covered better, INWsn would love a helping hand. More importantly, reach out to your school / league's athletic directors and make your voices heard that Football, Basketball and Volleyball are not the only sports people care about!!
